New AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D. Synopsis Hints That We Might Just See Director Mace Suit Up As "The Patriot"

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. returns from its winter hiatus in January, and this synopsis for the second episode back suggests we could be seeing Jeffrey Mace take on the mantle on The Patriot. Take a look...

We correctly guessed that the new Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. director would be based on '40s era Marvel Comics hero The Patriot a while before Jeffrey Mace (Jason O'Mara) made his debut on the show, but so far there hasn't been any indication that he ever actually fought under that mantle.

However, the second episode back just so happens to be titled "The Patriot", and based on what we learn from the synopsis below, that could well mean we'll get to see Mace suit-up.

Episode 4.10 - The Patriot

Coulson and Mack discover a shocking secret about Mace, which leaves all of S.H.I.E.L.D. in a dangerous position.

Guests: Jason O'Mara, Mallory Jansen, Adrian Pasdar, Maximilian Osinski, Patrick Cavanaugh, Troy Caylak, Kimberley Drummond, Shelly Robertson, Alastair Bayardo

The small-screen version of Mace is a lot different to his comic book counterpart (he's an Inhuman, for one), so even if S.H.I.E.L.D. does go this route there will almost certainly be some liberties taken with his superhero alter-ego, too. The character did sport a costume of sorts in the midseason finale, but could we see the addition of a mask, perhaps?

Tell us, do you think this means fans will see Mace in full-on Patriot mode, or will this just set something up for a later episode? Sound off below.

I don't see a reason for him to go full on superhero. His costume in the mid-season finale is probably as far as they will/should go. Even Mockingbird's costume wasn't all that costumy.

Well...

http://collider.com/ben-mendelsohn-rogue-one-star-wars-interview/#changes

I heard from a lot of the people I’ve spoken to –and I could be wrong– that when you shot it they would sort of play it multiple ways on set, so that way in the editing room…

MENDELSOHN: Yep, absolutely, very much. We did have multiple, multiple ways of going at any given scenario, we had multiple readings of it. So should they ever decided to, there would be a wealth of ways of approaching these different things. And I know from having seen sort of the crucial kind of scenes throughout it, I know there’s vastly different readings of at least four of those scenes.

So in essence there’s basically a completely different version of the movie that could be played on like an alternate cut of the entire film.

MENDELSOHN: Absolutely, with enormous differences within I would’ve said 20 or 30 of the scenes.
