Drew Goddard Confirms Involvement With Season 2 Of Marvel And Netflix's DAREDEVIL

Drew Goddard's decision to depart Daredevil and instead helm the now indefinitely delayed Sinister Six movie led to reports that Marvel weren't happy with the filmmaker, but it turns out he'll be involved with season two after all. Hit the jump for details on his role...

In hindsight, Drew Goddard made a big mistake deciding to helm Sinister Six for Sony. By doing so, he gave up the opportunity to direct The Martian and was forced to pass on being Daredevil's showrunner. However, despite parting ways with Marvel, it doesn't sound like there are any hard feeling as he'll actually be involved with season two. "I love Marvel, I still work with them," he told Collider recently. "I was in the writers room of Season 2 a couple weeks ago—it’s going. I think this sort of got portrayed as this sort of animosity, [but] it’s never been the case. They know I love their properties, they’ve been very nice to me, we just keep trying to find the right fit."

Whether or not they end up finding the right project for the filmmaker remains to be seen, especially as they seemingly didn't even approach him to helm their Spider-Man reboot despite rumours indicating that he would. So, just how involved with Daredevil will he really be? "My job is wonderful which is—I mean my friends are running it, Marco [Ramirez] and Doug [Petrie], and when I say, ‘What do you guys need?’ they say, ‘Come in, talk.’ That’s how it works, I’m still the executive producer. I show up and we talk about Matt Murdock and I say, ‘Do you need any more help?’ and they say, ‘No,’ and then I leave (laughs). I’m always there when they wanna talk about it, because this is what I do in my spare time anyway, sit around and talk about Daredevil. So if it counts as a job, I’m always ready to do it." It doesn't sound like a particularly major role then, but fans of Goddard will no glad be doubt that he's on call for his input if and when it's needed!

They had better be cooking up a way to return Ben Urich from the dead.

I love the show but the suit could be better. I hope he gets a upgrade.

More chances to look up Charlie Cox's nose.

Hopefully Drew will give DD a better costume.

I'd love Runaways to be adapted to Netflix.

Goddard is a good writer, hope he continues to be involved in the MCU.

People don't like him for some reason because he dropped DD though.

Want to clear that up.

If you got to work on a big Hollywood production that will pay you more money than working on a TV series, what would you do?

Forget about the whole rights issue, but as a business venture, it makes sense.

So this guy is an awesome guy who just wants to tell good stories. Glad he's on board.

LOVE WHAT I'M HEARING

Wish Goddard was more involved but just knowing that his opinions and knowledge is being heard in the writers room is still great

I like the suit, but there's room for improvement.
1) go all red or all black with red details here and there (like the All New Marvel suit)
2) the nose guard feels off, makes him look too much like Batman, so lose that.

Kinda feel sorry for the guy. He bet on the wrong horse. But i'm glad to hear the second season is going well.

That suit does look like shit, but it's only a few small tweaks away from being really good.

as bad as the Daredevil suit is, it will never be as bad as Fant4stic DOOM.

@Omega The black suit was better. But the babies were crying 24/7 because he wasn't in a silly-suit. If they had kept the black dud they'd still be crying. The black suit made the show more real. To me, the moment he had the silly-suit, the show felt like it was over and he had become a merchandise friendly caricature.

Love how people denied that the Black costume looked like the one from Trial of TIH

@JediPhilosopher

I hope you enjoyed the part where he was tailing the car on the rooftops as much as I did.

DD is the type of stuff that touches me right in my dark and gritty feels

"but they're called COMIC books..." "comic book accurate costumes..."

I'm willing to bet that Ike Perlmutter & Co. being bypassed is what allowed Goddard to come back.

Whatever the reason is, this is good news. I wish he'd have more of a hands-on role, but he's a vast improvement on Steven DeKnight. DeKnight definitely did a good job overseeing everything, but the episodes that he directly had a hand in writing/directing ended up being the weakest of the entire series, while the first 2 or 3 episodes (Goddard's credited as the writer, which he probably did before he left the project) are easily the best.

@SauronsBANE

Unfortunately, only the movies went with Feige. All else, including the Netflix shows, are still under Perlmutter.
