2017 is a big year for Marvel on Netflix, with three shows streaming instead of the usual two and The Defenders finally set to assemble. However, with The Punisher getting his own spinoff and more characters being added to this corner of the Marvel Cinematic Universe on a regular basis, does Marvel TV boss Jeph Loeb think they're running the risk of superhero fatigue? Not really, according to EW.
"I don’t know that you’d be asking this question if we were a medical show or a law show or a cop show," he replied before taking a perhaps not so subtle shot at the DC TV Universe. "I think the other part that separates us from, let’s just say, our distinguished competition, is that we take place in a very real, grounded world. We’ve always said that there is a fifth Defender, and that is New York."
Asked whether we'll ever see The Defenders on the big screen or crossing over with something like Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Loeb added: "You’re trying to trap me into saying, ‘Hashtag, it’s all connected.' If the story warrants it, we will obviously do our best to have folks cross into each other’s story lines." That's a frustrating answer, but one not too different to what we've heard from Kevin Feige!
Speaking of the Marvel Studio boss, the head of TV then went on to shed some light on how the two different divisions work together. "We certainly communicate with each other in terms of what we’re doing and what we have planned and the characters that we’re using and where it’s all going. Unfortunately for me as a fan, I tend to know more about what’s happening in the movies than I want to know." Poor thing! So, it definitely doesn't sound like The Defenders showing up in Avengers: Infinity War is any closer to becoming a reality, but there's still time for that to change. Hopefully.
