Marvel's second Disney+ miniseries, The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, concluded with an emotional season finale today, and while "One World, One People" wrapped up most characters' arcs in a satisfactory manner, we were left with a few lingering questions - particularly when it comes to a certain former Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D.!
As most of us expected, Sharon Carter was revealed to be the shadowy Power Broker, playing both sides against each other and manipulating characters and events to suit her own nefarious intentions.
Honestly, this didn't make a whole lot of sense. Sure, we buy that Sharon would be pissed off about what happened after the events of Civil War, but would this once dedicated agent who believed so strongly in Steve Rogers and everything he stood for really break bad to such a degree? Plus, why on Earth would she lead Sam, Bucky and Zemo to the only man capable of making more of the super-soldier serum, taking out her own people in the process?
A second season may shed more light on Sharon's motivations, but for now, we have a theory: What if Sharon Carter is the MCU's first undercover Skrull?
Today's mid-credits scene saw Carter pardoned and reinstated to a high-ranking government position, before she called a mysterious individual to inform them that they now had access to the most powerful weapons on Earth. Why would Sharon - no matter what organization she's revealed to be working for or with - need such an arsenal if she wasn't planning some kind of large-scale takeover? More importantly, would she be so willingly involved in such a scheme, despite how poorly she'd be treated in the past?
We know the Secret Invasion is coming, and it follows that at least one established character will be unveiled as a shape-shifting sleeper agent. Given everything we've seen from her in TFATWS, we think it might just turn out to be Miss Carter.
