THE FALCON AND THE WINTER SOLDIER Star Daniel Brühl On Finally Getting To Wear Baron Zemo's Mask

When Daniel Brühl returns as Zemo in The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, he will be donning the character's comic accurate mask, and the actor has now addressed both that and COVID-19 halting production...

Daniel Brühl first played Zemo in Captain America: Civil War, and while he may not have looked exactly like his comic book counterpart, he did something no other villain in the Marvel Cinematic Universe has been able to do: he put an end to The Avengers.

The ramifications of his actions were felt right up until Avengers: Endgame, so his return is definitely a big deal. That's set to take place in The Falcon and The Winter Soldier on Disney+, and a teaser video shared during last year's San Diego Comic-Con showed Zemo in his comic accurate mask.

During a recent interview with Collider, Brühl reflected on receiving the call to reprise the role, and what it was like to don that familiar mask.

"I remember that Kari Skogland, the director, came to Budapest and we recorded something with me being Zemo, and I was very happy and enthusiastic to see the mask. I was incredibly thrilled to go back because I remember that I had a lot of fun being in something completely different and getting to explore the MCU and become part of that."

"I have the fondest memories of collaborating with all of these wonderful actors, and to see Sebastian Stan again, and Anthony Mackie, this time around, and to come back to something which, on the one hand, felt common and known, and on the other hand, being something completely new and something fresh," he explained.

Brühl would go on to share an update on where thing stand with the Disney+ TV series after production was halted thanks to COVID-19.

"We were affected by the coronavirus whilst we were shooting the show, so hopefully we’ll be able to return very soon. We were not able to finish and to wrap it up. That’s still something that we have to do. Fingers crossed that it will happen, as soon as possible."

Clearly, there's still a lot more work to do, and that means the show's planned August premiere date is pretty much off the table at this point. Unfortunately, Marvel Studios has yet to comment either way.

Reminds me of this. Marko's Zemo art is still the best IMO. I'd sign my soul over to marvel to hurry up and make a Thunderbolts movie

@HeavyMetal4Life - mask no mask makes no difference to me that villain will always still look like bank robber with purple ski mask who can fight with sword nothing fearful menacing about that at all purple ski mask big deal.,

Marvel comics valkerie is white woman with blonde hair in movie she is black woman not comic accurate about that no one complained same with dominoe in Deadpool movie in comic she’s white skin black patch over eye straight short black hair, movie black woman wild curly hair white patch over.

If I saw baron Zeno in real life I wouldn’t be scared purple ski mask woopty doo, dr doom maybe possibly metal armor that ability’s shoot things and stuff.,
Baron zeomo no powers at all

I think it would be cool if he was sprung from prison by some govt or non govt outfit or individual (Thunderbolt Ross or whomever) because the way he dismantled the Avengers is a display of an immensely impressive skill set and dogged determination that can be used in intelligence, warfare whatever. He’s being used to do off books espionage. Of course, he’s Zemo so he’s got some ulterior motive and is maybe suing the situation to his advantage somehow.

Thus leading to the Thunderbolts. Whoever has Sam and Bucky looking into what he’s doing just don’t trust what’s going on and need them to stop it. I think Zemo’s ego has probably grown insanely large with knowing how he cracked the world’s greatest heroes.

@BlackBeltJones -

Really enjoyed that Punisher run. Heroes should go up against different villains than expected more often.

Especially since i was one of those guys saying that MCU's version of Zemo would never wear a mask...how wrong i was.
Futher proof that your boy Doomy ain't perfect.

Wonder why he dons the mask...

Doesn't seem like something he would do considering his character in Civil War. Someone has to break him out of jail. I'm sure that will be explored.

@regularmovieguy - I'm hoping they reveal his grandfather was Heinrich Zemo was with Hydra in WW2. Maybe even say he fought Cap during the war. And now this Zemo makes himself the new Baron Zemo when he learns this.

I don't know. But even with the mask he's just missing that piece that makes Zemo who he is. The fact that his family has been fighting Cap for generations, and he's picking up the mantle in present day is one of the coolest things about Baron Zemo. Not having that makes the MCU version feel like a different character entirely.

But can he still have a mustache? Doesn’t have to twirl it, just cut holes in his mask for the stache to breave

I really didn’t want to wear the mask, confining, harder to act through it and then COVID-19 came along and I said, “Give me that mask.”

I really wonder what they’re gonna do with Bucky in this show... i really wanted him to be Cap (the most logical continuation of him IMO) but since he isn’t, I have no idea where they’re gonna take him
