THE FALCON AND THE WINTER SOLDIER Star Wyatt Russell Pushed To Wear Chris Evans' Captain America Costume

Wyatt Russell's John Walker has a very cool costume as the Marvel Cinematic Universe's new Captain America, but the actor actually pushed to be allowed to wear Chris Evans' old suit. Read on for details...

John Walker has proved to be a divisive addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but that's kind of the point! How his story will play out in The Falcon and The Winter Soldier remains to be seen, but it wouldn't be at all surprising for him to eventually ditch the Captain America mantle to become U.S. Agent.

Actor Wyatt Russell recently appeared in Jimmy Kimmel Live! to discuss his role in the Disney+ TV series, and revealed that he initially pushed to be allowed to wear one of Chris Evans' old costumes.

"I requested Chris Evans' old suit, so I could feel like I was doing a good job since he did such a great job. And they gave me a new one," the actor revealed. "It's presentational in effect, and I am kind of a slouchy guy, so it is like the first piece locks [straight up] and the second piece zips up and locks [in] like that. You're underneath the suit, but it looks cool."

In the same interview, Russell admitted that before he was cast in The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, his knowledge of the MCU was limited.

"When I came on set, I was like, 'What does that mean? Who's that person? How do they fit in?' And finally, Sebastian [Stan] was like, 'Dude, stop asking questions. You're going to get more confused. If you get answers, it's going to be worse.'"

You can watch the full interview with the actor about his role as the new Captain America in the video below.

I'm looking at it now, it's weirdly similar to John Walker and old Steve Rogers.

Come on man.
You can't spoil anything if you don't know anything.
That's like rule Number 1 when it comes to these projects.

I mean good on him for wanting to get more into the story or whatever, I'd hate it too to work on something I don't even really know what it is...
BUT STILL:

Seb Stan is used to not knowing what's going on. Wyatt Russell should feel lucky he has a script lol

I like when actors are honest about how much of the source material they've read after landing a role. Assuming his John Walker role is well-written, he shouldn't have to go read hundreds of pages of comics or watch dozens of hours of the MCU. Everything should already be on the page for him.

Now, can reading the source material maybe give him some new ideas on how to play the role? Maybe. If anything, the comics just provide cultural context, nothing more.
