With less than a week to go before the first two episodes of Hawkeye arrive on Disney+, we're not going to get into spoilers quite yet! We can, however, tell you that the premiere kicks off by exploring Kate Bishop's childhood before her origin and training are revealed through some brilliant animated opening credits that definitely appear to be paying homage to David Aja's comic book work.
At the global press conference for Hawkeye earlier this week, we asked director Rhys Thomas where the idea for the credits came from and how much they were inspired by the source material.
"I think setting up Kate as a character and her abilities...it could be [a] whole story itself. We obviously wanted you to meet the character on an emotional level first and foremost and understand, I think, more of that relationship to Clint," he explained, careful not to give too much away.
"At the same time, there is this other background with her," he added, "and I think just establishing that she's been preparing for this moment felt obviously important to understand too."
This is definitely an inventive way to bring us up to speed with how Kate became such a talented fighter and archer, and avoids Hawkeye having to waste too much time explaining things before throwing us into the thick of the action. We're sure you guys will love these opening credits when you see them, and they're something Marvel Studios definitely appear to be making greater use of in Phase 4.
