From the very start, we heard that Marvel Studios wanted Bumblebee star Hailee Steinfeld to take on the role of Kate Bishop in Hawkeye. There was a time it looked like it wouldn't (or couldn't) happen, but any complications were worked out and she'll make her MCU debut on Disney+ this Wednesday.
ComicBookMovie.com was among those in attendance for Hawkeye's global press conference earlier this week, and that saw Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige share some interesting new intel.
"Hailee did not audition," he confirmed. "We were very, very lucky that Hailee was open to this because we very much believed that she was sort of the prototype for the character."
Clearly, Steinfeld was the only actress Marvel Studios wanted for this character, and the Marvel Studios boss would go on to explain: "As occasionally happens, the dream version of the character agrees to do it. I think there were some early meetings and discussions, but we were very thankful that she wanted to jump into this role because we had a feeling that she would be great, and she is."
After watching the first two episodes of Hawkeye, we can assure you that Steinfeld is great in this role. Something tells us Marvel Studios has big plans for the actress and character moving forward, and we wouldn't be at all surprised to see Kate take over Clint Barton's "Hawkeye" mantle permanently.
