In WandaVision, Wanda Maximoff finally became the Scarlet Witch. However, her evolution ended on a tragic note when she was forced to drop the Hex around Westview and bid farewell to The Vision and her children, Tommy and Billy.
When we caught up with Wanda in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, the Darkhold had corrupted the Avenger and she went on a rampage through realities to find Variants of her twin boys.
Verging on being a full-blown villain by the time all was said and done, Wanda eventually saw the error of her ways and appeared to bury herself beneath Wundagore. However, that was only after she'd used her powers to destroy every possible copy of the Darkhold in the Multiverse.
It's widely believed that Wanda found a way to survive and there's been chatter online about a Scarlet Witch movie for several months.
Today, scooper @MyTimeToShineH has shared an update claiming Marvel Studios is now looking for a director. That presumably means they have a script, and it's previously been reported that the plan is to get this project into theaters before Avengers: Secret Wars.
For now, though, Elizabeth Olsen seems eager to take a break from the MCU. "Specifically in the last four years, my output has been Marvel," she said last year. "I don’t want...it’s not that I don’t want to be associated as just this character. But I really feel like I need to be building other parts back up for balance."
"I so much want to do films right now. And I hope some of them come together in the way I feel like they can. But yeah, that’s something that I need. I just need other characters in my life," Olsen added. "There’s no longevity in one character."
Chances are that if the Scarlet Witch movie doesn't serve as Olsen's farewell to the character, then one of the next Avengers movies will.
We also have a Hawkeye season 2 update; apparently, the plan is for the story to once again take place during Christmas. The hope is to cast a "big name" to play Clint Barton's brother Barney (who is better known in the comics as Trickshot).
Back in February, Jeremy Renner addressed his MCU return when he said, "I'm always game. I'm gonna be strong enough, that's for sure. I'll be ready."
