Well, that was quite an episode of Hawkeye, eh? As well as an epic, extended action sequence featuring Clint Barton and Kate Bishop taking on Echo and the Tracksuit Mafia, a big cliffhanger set the stage for what promises to be an eventful fourth chapter of the Disney+ series.
We have to talk about that cameo, though.
"Echoes" kicked off by exploring Maya Lopez's childhood, explaining that even though she's deaf, the young woman is a skilled fighter who carefully observes her opponents in order to outmanoeuvre them. However, when her father drops Maya off for a martial arts session, he mentions having to go and do business with "Uncle." It's then that we see a large man approach Maya wearing a black suit, pinching her face with a chuckle.
That chuckle is quite obviously Vincent D'Onofrio's voice, meaning this must be Wilson Fisk, a.k.a. the Kingpin of Crime! We never see his face, but it's later revealed that there is someone who Maya reports to and they're not to be messed with. "Uncle" is also mentioned by Kazi during a heated exchange with Echo, and it now seems clear that we will be meeting the MCU's take on the villain soon.
Interestingly, this episode reveals that it was Ronin who killed Maya's father, so unlike the comic books, it seems the Kingpin won't frame Daredevil (or another hero) for his crime.
Are you excited to see what sort of spin Marvel Studios puts on D'Onofrio's Kingpin?
