Avengers: Endgame and Hawkeye star Jeremy Renner is currently recovering at home following a nasty accident earlier this month that very nearly cost the actor his life.
As we're sure you're aware, Renner found himself in the ICU after a snow plow ran over him, causing significant injuries that required at least two surgeries (and if the gossip rags are to be believed, very nearly cost him his leg). Now, additional details have been revealed by CNN courtesy of a Nevada sheriff's office incident report.
"The Pistenbully snow groomer began sliding causing Renner to exit the vehicle without setting the emergency brake," it reads. "Although the Pistenbully had some mechanical issues, it is believed based on our mechanical inspection that the parking brake would keep the Pistenbully from moving forward."
"When Renner attempted to stop or divert the Pistenbully to avoid injury to (his nephew), he was pulled under the vehicle by the track and run over."
Renner's nephew is said to have helped his uncle until help arrived, with the Captain America: Civil War star later airlifted to the hospital where he remained for two weeks. The actor was not impaired in any way, and this appears to have been little more than a cast of human error/a near-tragic accident.
It's added that Renner used his snow plow to tow his nephew's truck off his driveway after it became stuck in the snow. It was after pulling that into the street that the plow started sliding sideways, prompting him to jump out. However, "Once he was off the Pistenbully, he realized it was heading directly toward (his nephew)."
"He feared the Pistenbully was going to hit (his nephew), so he decided to attempt to stop or divert the Pistenbully." As a result, Renner was "immediately pulled under the left side track" after attempting to re-enter the vehicle.
Thankfully, he does appear to be on the road to recovery, though we don't anticipate seeing him on screen for a while yet. Marvel Studios hasn't announced plans for a Hawkeye season 2, but if it was in the works, it's no doubt been put on indefinite hold. We also don't know what this means for Renner's possible role in the next two Avengers movies.
The MCU aside, it goes without saying that we wish Jeremy a speedy recovery!
