HAWKEYE: Vincent D'Onofrio Addresses THAT Cliffhanger And Possible MCU Reunion With Charlie Cox's Daredevil

Daredevil alum Vincent D'Onofrio has shared his thoughts on how Kingpin's story ended in the season finale of Hawkeye, teasing his possible MCU future and whether a meeting with Daredevil could be coming.

The secret is out: Vincent D'Onofrio is back as Kingpin! It's not exactly a spoiler at this point as rumours have done the rounds about him showing up in Hawkeye for months, while hints he'd appear began as soon as the show's first episode (before we finally got confirmation in the penultimate instalment).

Now, the actor is doing the rounds to discuss his return as Wilson Fisk...and what might come next.

Deadline asked if Maya Lopez seemingly gunning the villain down means this is the end for Kingpin in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and D'Onofrio is giving nothing away. "I hope he didn’t die," the actor admits. "I’m with the fans, I want to keep playing this part. My hope is that we continue."

The trade also pushed D'Onofrio to see if he knows why the Tracksuit Mafia was so keen to retrieve that Rolex from the black market auction. "I’m trying to figure it out like everyone else. I’m in the same boat: I really need more information." We're not sure if that's actually leading anywhere, as it seems likely they were after it because it could reveal Agent 19's identity to the highest bidder.

In a separate interview with TV Line, the Hawkeye star was once again asked about the chances of Kingpin's survival after being shot at point-blank range by Maya. "There are many facets to the character that could be explored, so I only can hope that we continue," he teased. "It’s not the first time I’ve had to walk away from this character, but we’ll see."

The site also wondered whether D'Onofrio is looking forward to potentially getting to cross paths with his old Daredevil co-star Charlie Cox again after his return as Matt Murdock in Spider-Man: No Way Home.

"I would love for that," he says. "It hasn’t crossed my mind a lot; I’ve kind of walked away from Daredevil. For a bit, I thought it might come back, but it’s been years now. I gave up on that [possibility]. But I didn’t know that I was going to get a call from [Marvel Studios chief] Kevin [Feige], either, so everything’s up for grabs. I had no idea that I would do Hawkeye."

Fingers crossed for Echo, eh? That's the most likely next destination for The Kingpin right now.

“How’d you know I’m wearing a Hawaiian shirt?”
“I’m a really good lawyer”

He's definitely going to be the big bad in Echo.

Always welcome to see D'onofrio return. I just hope it's not the discount Kingpin we had in that finale.

I thought he looked much older than he did in daredevil. not sure if they added aging makeup to him or what but he looked more like the comic character. Seemed fatter too lol

So Daredevil is canon, there you have it.
HeavyMetal4Life
HeavyMetal4Life - 12/23/2021, 2:33 PM
@JustAChillDude - yup. All the Netflix shows are, as Daredevil in NWH and Kingpin in Hawkeye are the same versions as from Netflix.

Nightwing1015 - 12/23/2021, 3:14 PM
@HeavyMetal4Life - Then why is Kingpin superhumanly strong. Nobody wants them to be canon more than me but the way he was portrayed differently with no explanation worries me.
HeavyMetal4Life
HeavyMetal4Life - 12/23/2021, 3:16 PM
@Nightwing1015 - perhaps that will be revealed down the road. Who knows what he has been up to since we last saw him at the end of DDs3.
Nightwing1015
Nightwing1015 - 12/23/2021, 3:20 PM
@HeavyMetal4Life - I hope it is. From what I understand he's supposed to be the same version yet they gave him these crazy powers with no explanation. I wish they had addressed it in the show or better yet, just kept him grounded and not had to have him be a physical threat to be intimidating.
HeavyMetal4Life
HeavyMetal4Life - 12/23/2021, 3:21 PM
@Nightwing1015 - I wouldn't call them crazy powers, he's just a bit stronger.
Nightwing1015
Nightwing1015 - 12/23/2021, 3:22 PM
@HeavyMetal4Life - He's comic-book level of Kingpin strong. Like he was definitely rly strong in Daredevil but now he's getting shot with Arrows and guns at point blank range and getting hit by cars and explosions and walking them off lol!

@Nightwing1015 - to this point what does canon actually mean? How come these cant just be different versions of the same characters from the Netflix series? To me if the try to make the Netflix stuff automatically canon the it raises some questions regarding timeline stuff. Why not just treat the Netflix stuff as "EU" like Star Wars did with its stuff and keep the basics of the characters we know with the same actors but just now MCU? Since we know the multiverse exists that can be kept as the Netflix-verse

@Nightwing1015 - pretty sure he was wearing a kevlar vest, so take that into account too

@JustAChillDude - He said it himself, that "some of the dots don't connect"

He's a variant, most things will be the same, but NOT everything. He is affiliated with the Tracksuits and Echo, which he wasn't in DD. And also he's exhibited super strength and invulnerability that was definitely not present in DD
BIGBMH
BIGBMH - 12/23/2021, 5:21 PM
@lordSTALE - You "variant" people are cherry-picking whatever you can to support that theory.

"Once I reconnected to the way I played him [on Daredevil], what the events in his life were, and attached myself to the emotional aspects of the character, then it was fine, I was good to go. I know that we were picking up with the same guy. It's tough to connect all the dots, but they connected as many as they could and that he had lost a bit of his power because of the Blip. But the idea [was] to bring him into Hawkeye, to have him be that same character that he was in the earlier show, and play him like that."
DarkDetective
DarkDetective - 12/23/2021, 6:37 PM
@JustAChillDude - emmmm.... Where did he said that?
lordSTALE
lordSTALE - 12/23/2021, 8:57 PM
@BIGBMH - I can quote people too, like what I did for Vincent and then there was Charlie Cox saying that they were playing "reimagined" versions of the characters

But I'm just curious, since you guys are so excited about that show being canon, maybe you can answer this: why isn't Fisk in prison? Wasn't that the deal at the end of Daredevil season 3, that he would go to prison or Vanessa definitely would? 🤔😏
JustAChillDude
JustAChillDude - 12/23/2021, 9:41 PM
@Nightwing1015 - Power Broker, Super soldier serum. boom
JustAChillDude
JustAChillDude - 12/23/2021, 9:43 PM
@lordSTALE - as you can see Fisk is laying low, he went from operating at fancy hotels or Fisk Tower to now operating in broke down auto shops to possibly avoid Daredevil
lordSTALE
lordSTALE - 12/23/2021, 10:17 PM
@JustAChillDude - If Fisk was released from prison again, that would have been major news for New York just like it was the last time

And canon to the show, he's a big public figure by his own choice, there is no "laying low" anymore after that
BIGBMH
BIGBMH - 12/23/2021, 11:34 PM
@lordSTALE - "I can quote people too, like what I did for Vincent"

The difference is that you cherry-picked 6 words that lent themselves to the interpretation you are trying to sell. I presented a full statement that pretty fully conveys what he expressed with little room for interpretation or twisting.

"But I'm just curious, since you guys are so excited about that show being canon, maybe you can answer this: why isn't Fisk in prison? Wasn't that the deal at the end of Daredevil season 3, that he would go to prison or Vanessa definitely would? 🤔😏"

Lol, you act like that's the ultimate checkmate of a point there. How could a villain possibly go to prison and then NOT be in prison?!

Any number of explanations. For one thing, the blip opens up a world of possibilities. With all that chaos and confusion, it's very possible for Fisk to take advantage. Matt and/or Vanessa could've been blipped, leaving Fisk with no reason to adhere to the deal. The guy had FBI on his payroll. He's connected enough to get his conviction overturned, especially with his biggest opponent out of the way.
lordSTALE
lordSTALE - 12/24/2021, 12:52 AM
@BIGBMH - Cherry-picked 6 words that would basically describe a variant situation just like what Cox said, a "reimagining" where not everything that happened on that show is what happened in the MCU

You might have noticed similar things with the different Lokis, Doctors Strange and Peters Parker. Some of their lives are mostly the same, some are drastically different. This Kingpin might have most of the same history, but he clearly is strong enough to rip a car door of the hinges immediately, while the other could only smash a guy's head with one after several swings. This Kingpin probably doesn't have a Vanessa, it certainly explains why he's not in prison, and he is a father figure to Maya who wasn't even hinted at in DD
