Marvel Rumored To Be Plotting A Standalone HAWKEYE Movie But Will It Star Jeremy Renner?

With Marvel Studios clearly holding off on revealing its Phase 4 plans, rumours continue to swirl about what's next and there are now rumblings about plans for Hawkeye but who will wield the hero's bow?

Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige recently hinted that Phase 4 will feature new incarnations of some familiar heroes and while it's fair to say most of us assumed that he must be referring to Captain America. However, what about Hawkeye? The buzz surrounding him ahead of the release of Avengers: Infinity War made it clear just how popular the hero is so could a solo outing now be in the offing?

According to MCU Cosmic (the same site that dropped that news about The Eternals), Marvel may have some loose plans for a couple of different characters to receive the spotlight in a solo movie and Hawkeye is one of them. The site notes that what Feige has said about "different incarnations" of the heroes we know and love ties into what they've heard about the archer. What does that mean?

Well, it could be a couple of different things. We may see Hawkeye suit up as Ronin on a permanent basis or Kate Bishop could take over the mantle, providing the studio with another female lead to build a franchise around. It would certainly be a fun direction to take things in but the site cautions that these plans are very tentative and not confirmed. What do you guys think? Share your thoughts below.

As soon as I saw that this came from MCU Cosmic I knew manabyte was the source. Will wait for official word from Marvel before getting interested. It will only be worth watching if Jeremy Renner stars in it, though. Otherwise, I'll skip it.

I'd rather get a Netflix series to be honest. No sense in making a 200 million dollar movie about a guy with a bow and arrow.

Wouldn't mind a buddy movie with Kate Bishop and Barton.

We simply haven't had enough Hawkeye to bring in Kate Bishop as the titular role. I love Hawkeye [from the cartoons, and comics]. The movie version is OK but I feel you can give that bow to any ace archer and they can also be an avenger. Natasha has earned her spot on the Avengers roster through her heroics end of AVengers 1, to her taking co-leadership of the team at the end of Avengers 2.

The way they tried to make Hawkeye more important was by, giving him a family (?). That makes him even less worthy to be an avenger because his priority is not to the team, but to his family. I think it was an admirable attempt but misguided. My pitch to make Hawkeye awesome is to John Wick him. John is an ordinary man who happens to be deadly and skilled af. It's in the choreography of his moves and his tenacity going at it solo, that everybody knows John Wick is not to be effed with. He doesn't need powers. If they revamped Hawkeye's fighting style as Ronin, and had him switching between blade, fists, and bow as if he was pressing Y button on the Xbox controller... he would instantly be elevated up in the fan's eyes. He needs to kick ass and look good while doing so. SHow why he's an Avenger and how the team can rely on him to get the job done. They did such a good job upgrade Captain America's fight style for Winter Soldier. Give Hawkeye the same treatment and use John Wick as inspiration.

I'm all for new characters, but I'd like to see Renner to get his own movie before he's finished. I'd love to see him on some sort of international spy mission. It could be relatively low budget too, at least compared to other superhero movies.

I didn't even think about that...a HAWKEYE movie could be in the vein of ANT-MAN with Clint Barton as the mentor and Kate Bishop as the star.

@Brave - Just to be clear you know she isn't talking about Clint when she's saying that right? I feel people use that panel out of context 95% of the time.

Marvel is gonna go down a path and I hope it doesn’t happen but I have a really strange feeling that they are gonna go down a not so good path. I hope it doesn’t happen and I don’t know how but I don’t trust a Russoless Marvel especially with some of the recent comments.
