The second Disney started making plans for its own streaming service, Netflix began pulling the plug on its Marvel Television projects. Iron Fist was among the casualties, of course, though some serious missteps in the show's first two seasons meant that many fans didn't exactly mourn the end of Danny Rand's story.
The series ended on a huge cliffhanger, with Danny and Ward on the hunt for a former Iron Fist after Colleen Wing was granted the former's powers.
Now, in an interview with ComicBook.com, Finn Jones has shed some light on scrapped plans for Iron Fist season 3. "I love everything about [Danny Rand]. I think he's such a jewel, and so did [showrunner Raven Metzner] as well. And we really would just vibe out and geek out together about the prospects of what we could create with that character.
"And the second season was really all about course correction. It was like, how do we just change the course and the conversation around this show, and just bring it up to a place that we can feel proud of," the actor continues. "And then we can take the show in the direction that we really want to take it in."
"Raven especially wanted to see Danny and Ward off in distant lands fighting crime and having the guns and the Orson Randall and that kind of persona. And then Colleen would be in New York with the Iron Fist, kind of coming to terms with that responsibility. And then eventually over I think the course of that season, they would find each other again and become whole."
Season 2 was an improvement over the dire first batch of episodes delivered by Inhumans showrunner Scott Buck, but not enough to fully redeem the character in the eyes of most fans. Seeing the gun-wielding Orson would have been fun, but after two seasons of Danny barely using his powers, we can't imagine it would have quite done that storyline justice.
Iron Fist's MCU future remains a mystery, though there has been chatter online that the plan at Marvel Studios is to recast Danny.
