Tom Hiddleston first played the God of Mischief in 2011's Thor, later reprising the role in Captain America: The First Avenger, The Avengers, Thor: The Dark World, Thor: Ragnarok, Avengers: Infinity War, Avengers, Endgame, What If...?, and eventually his own solo series, Loki.
It's been quite the ride for the British actor and one he recently suggested could be over now the show's second season has concluded. The God of Mischief has become "God Loki," and is arguably the most powerful being in the entire MCU as he powers the newly recreated Multiverse.
Hiddleston recently caught up with ComicBook.com about his future as the character and this time hinted that we haven't seen the last of the Asgardian.
"It's so hard because I'll be completely honest with you, I have at least twice in my life said goodbye," he told the site. "I've written to Kevin Feige and Louis de Esposito and Victoria Alonso and been like, 'Thank you so much. It's been like the role of a lifetime,' and they've written notes back saying, 'Come and see us anytime. You're always part of the family. We're always here. You've given us so much and tears have been shared.'"
"So I think I'd be unwise at this point to be conclusive about any of it," he teased.
In the same interview, Hiddleston also weighed in on the possibility of this new version of Loki one day reuniting with his brother, Chris Hemsworth's Thor.
"I think both Thor and Loki have had to excavate and analyze the past and who they feel they really are and what they really want," Hiddleston pondered. "But what's interesting about family as well, this is just me thinking about it, is sometimes it will be difficult to let go of the preconception of who they used to be. Loki might be expecting Thor to behave in a certain way or be a certain way. Thor might be expecting Loki to be a certain way."
"So I think initially it would be really confusing, but also they'd been apart for a long time and no doubt they've been objects in each other's mind. And so yeah, I think I wonder what a reunion would likely be. We'll see."
It was recently rumoured that it's Sylvie who will meet Earth-616's Thor, an intriguing possibility seeing as we know very little about her relationship with the God of Thunder on her branched timeline.
In a separate conversation with the site, Loki executive producer Kevin Wright seemed similarly enthusiastic about an eventual Loki and Thor reunion.
"That would always be my hope, is that somewhere, somewhere down the line, somebody gets to tell that story because [Loki's] so different and because Thor is so different now, too," he says. "I think that's what makes it interesting is, in my head - they're weirdly different, but I think there would just be a deep internal understanding between the two of them. And I think it could be just something really beautiful and cool."
It feels like all the right people want this to happen so it may just be a matter of time. In many ways, Loki season 2 felt like it could be the end of the villain-turned-hero's story, but as Hiddleston himself points out, it would be foolish to think that's the last we'll see of a character who keeps coming back...
