RUMOR: MARVEL ZOMBIES Will Feature A New Moon Knight And It Won't Be Marc Spector Beneath The Hood

There's still no word on plans for Moon Knight season 2, but a new rumour suggests the character will factor into Disney+'s animated Marvel Zombies TV series...without Marc Spector beneath the mask!

Marvel Zombies was first revealed at the 2022 San Diego Comic-Con as part of Marvel Studios' "Marvel Animation" slate reveal. Very little has been revealed since then, and while the show is still on the way, there's no word on whether it will be released this year or in 2025.

In the meantime, an intriguing new rumour is doing the rounds which suggests Moon Knight will be among the heroes who play a role in the animated series.

Scooper @CanWeGetToast shared the news (via Toonado.com), revealing that Marvel Zombies will see a new character become the Fist of Khonshu. No further details were provided, so we don't know if an existing hero or villain will inherit the mantle or whether an original creation is replacing Marc Spector; either way, we're surprised Oscar Isaac isn't returning as Marc Spector/Steven Grant/Jake Lockley.

The actor previously lent his voice to Poe Dameron in the animated Star Wars Resistance so he would surely be willing. Money might have been an issue and we'd be remiss not to point out that Isaac was clear about only signing up for the six-episode Moon Knight.

Regardless, we wouldn't necessarily take this as any sort of indication the actor won't eventually return as the MCU's Moon Knight. There could, after all, be a compelling story reason for not including Marc in this follow-up to the What If...? episode "What If... Zombies?!"

Remember, this story takes place in a post-apocalyptic reality so a hero like Moon Knight falling to the zombie plague and later being replaced makes sense. With any luck, Khonshu is also going to factor into whatever form this gory tale takes.

"That's going to be crazy," What If...? director and producer Bryan Andrews recently said of Marvel Zombies"Yeah, [it's] full TV-MA. It's spawning off of what was done on Episode [105]. The notion was, there's some inspiration from the comic, the fact that they're zombies, but we're not doing the comic, like, in any stretch."

"We have our own take on it, and a lot of that stuff has been set up by our talented [What If...?] writers early on, so, just taking that and... exploring that mythology in that episode a bit more. So, yeah, it's crazy."

The animated series reimagines the Marvel Universe as a new generation of heroes battle against an ever-spreading zombie scourge.

In the comic books, Marvel Zombies started as a five-issue limited series first published in 2005. The series was written by Robert Kirkman (who would later create The Walking Dead) with art by Sean Phillips and covers by Arthur Suydam.

The story was set in an alternate universe where the world's superhero population has been infected with a virus which turned them into zombies. The series was spun out of a story arc in the pages of Ultimate Fantastic Four, where the zombie Reed Richards tricked his Ultimate counterpart into opening a portal to the zombie universe only for the latter to prevent the former from ever coming to his universe.

Stay tuned for more on Marvel Zombies as we have it.

...why does marvel hate marc specter so much?

They give him a show they gotta change everything around in to make it work for disney+, then in the comics they replace him and are now doing the same thing in the shows.

...is it because he's Jewish?

Don't try to hide it, iger!

@dragon316 - 1) they don't get replaced right after their big mcu appearance.

Also, literally all of those characters are much more popular than moon knight. Moon knight has always relied on his niche audience to tell off the wall stories.

@Origame - I think that it's because they are anti-Marcs-ists. (Okay okay, I'm leaving. Just lemme get my coat. No? Okay okay I'm going...) 😉

@mountainman - She probably got more screen time than Marc Spector did in the Moon Knight costume.

6 minutes as Moon Knight.

Deffo a case of why not both, if Marc Spector became a Zombie he would cease being the Fist of Khonshu you would think but could still be shown appearing whilst a new character takes up the mantle. There are interesting ways they could use stuff like Egyptian gods with a living dead story however but as one who is generaly not a fan of Zombie stuff (odd exceptions but tend not to like films/show featuring them) reserving judgement and low expectations for it, as in if I will enjoy what they create or not without even considering if it will be good or not.

they ruined him in that disney show, best thing they can do now is to reboot him once Sony gets the rights back and do the character justice

You don’t know he’d be willing.

Honestly, one of the best things about the original comic book series was that the zombie-infected Marvel universe seemed to have first been infected some time in the 80s or 90s, so the versions of heroes and villains that we get are from that time period. It gave it a certain nostalgia and "charm" - for lack of a better word - that future iterations have been missing.

Why Marvel animation has not tried to poach Bruce Timm and company to put a jolt into their animated films astounds me.

Same with WBs/DC. Why in the hell, after Bruce Timm nailed BtAS, StAS, JL, and JLU, did they not at least consult him or eventually put him in charge of the 'DCU?'

@lazlodaytona - Marvel may have tried. But Bruce Timm is under contract with WB. He's got a new Batman Animated series coming. As for putting him in charge of the DCU? Show running an animated series is vastly different from live action. just look at Andrew Stanton and even Brad Bird. Dave Filoni still remains to be seen,

@Patient2670 - I'm not say Bruce should have total control or direct. However, going to him for an outline of the DCU universe can't hurt.
