Marvel Studios' The Runaways To Begin Filming March 2011!

According to Production Weekly, the movie will begin filming early next year! Read on to find out where they'll film as well as what the movie will be called during production...

It was previously reported that the next movie from Marvel Studios' would shoot from next January to July, but a tweet from Production Weekly today has now specified when exactly filming will really start as well as the name they'll use during production.

Update: Marvel's "The Runaways" (aka "Small Faces"), is scheduled to begin filming in March in L.A.

Nick & Nora's Infinite Playlist director Peter Sollett will apparently direct the live-action adaptation of the series, created by Brian K. Vaughn, which is about a group of super-powered teens who realize that their parents are super-villains.

I'm a little surprised that Marvel are moving ahead with a movie based on characters who arent even popular enough to warrant their own series especially when the likes of Black Panther and Doctor Strange are ripe for the picking! However, I'm sure that they'll eventually get around to making them post Avengers and if this is set to be the first of their low budget films focusing on lesser known characters, that can surely only be a good thing for us fans in the long term!

Personally, I think this would have made a better TV show. If they're desperate to make a movie featuring some younger characters, Young Avengers is one I'd be far more interested in! That would also make for an awesome small screen feature as well though..!

LEE: Arent you forgetting something? That's Fox! The less characters they ruin, the better!

Set2Fall: Good luck pal! :) Make sure you keep us updated about how you get on. (even though I'm sure you'll have to keep deadly silent if you get the job, lol!)

never read the comic, but read up on their backgrounds on marvel.com.

they sound quite intresting lot, specially lucy in the sky, arsenic & old lace(a dinosauer)who doesn't love dinosauers.

f*ck fox, marvel studios is the future of the comicbook movie genre.

@JoshW

The problem with YA is that it is very closely tied to the Avengers mythos, and two of it's characters are directly tied to Scarlet Witch, a character who has yet to make her debut.

deadpool72: Yeah, I'm a big Brian K. Vaughn but have never read the original series either. As you said though, they are a pretty interesting so it'll probably end up being a good movie especially if they tie it in to the rest of the Marvel Studios films...even if it's just a Nick Fury or Iron Man cameo for example! :P

iconstatic: Yeah, they would need to heavily alter some of the characters backrounds in order to adapt it! Plus, they probably wouldnt want to release it around the same time as The Avengers in case it were to lead to any confusion with regular movie-goers! I'm still hoping we'll see them at some point though!

This award-winning comic was popular enough to last from 2003 to 2009, with more issues supposedly in the pipeline...

Just because you don't or didn't read it, you shouldn't suppose it's not popular.

I like the Runaways because it involves nearly all facets of the Marvel Universe.

Molly is a mutant.

Nico has the supernatural/mystic angle.

Karolina is an alien, part of Marvel Cosmic.

Chase's power/family represent the higher technology of the Marvel U.

Alex's family IS involved in organized crime, which involves the street level characters.

Gert's parents are time traveler's, and we know how much that figures into the Marvel U.

This has alot of potential, and there are so many ways you can shoot this movie. It's weird that I'm saying this, because there are a good number of characters I love and want to see movies of, but I think its a smart move.

@JoshW You know, this would have been an excellent "live-action" Television series for Marvel.

It would be cool if they make the movie interesting enough for people to actually want to see a TV series. And occasionally have cameos from the big superheros: Something as simple as having RDJ appear at the Runaways school for an intervention or something.

IDK something that would make the Marvel Cinematic Universe span from movies into the something to tune into every week.

im tired of marvel just sh***ing out all these movies. to be honest although they are quite entertaining. they are poorly made. IMO the only "good" marvel movies are spidey 1&2. x-men 2. ironman. and maybe even incredible hulk. thats 5 out of lord knows how many marvel movies? yes i know certain studios have screwed the pooch with many of them. but still. i feel thats what's giving our favorite genre of film (CBMs) its bad rep. aaaaaand im tired of marvel putting out like 100 different comics out every week. gee wizz. i mean theres shadowland and its 5 different tie ins! all at 3.99each. i mean c'mon. again ill reiterate that this is my opinion so dont go firing your bullets at me. lol.
