Marvel Studios has confirmed that the first three episodes of Secret Invasion will begin streaming on Hulu tomorrow

They'll only be available until August 17 and hit the platform just in time for next week's finale (Hulu subscribers will obviously need to sign up to Disney+ for the fourth, fifth, and sixth instalments). So, why is the latest MCU series being made available on another streaming service?

We'd imagine it's a) to boost Disney+ subscribers and b) to increase interest in Secret Invasion. It's by no means an unprecedented movie and is, in fact, a smart business decision on Disney's part. Outside of the U.S., this won't really matter as Disney+ and Hulu are one and the same.

"Secret Invasion is the MCU espionage thriller we’ve been waiting for," we said in our review of the first two episodes. "Samuel L. Jackson’s magnum opus as Nick Fury, the show delivers one jaw-dropping moment after another and quickly establishes itself as essential viewing for any Marvel fan."

Check out this new Secret Invasion promo below.

In Secret Invasion, set in the present-day MCU, Nick Fury learns of a clandestine invasion of Earth by a faction of shapeshifting Skrulls. Fury joins his allies, including Everett Ross, Maria Hill and the Skrull Talos, who has made a life for himself on Earth. Together they race against time to thwart an imminent Skrull invasion and save humanity.

The show stars Samuel L. Jackson, Ben Mendelsohn, Cobie Smulders, Martin Freeman, Kingsley Ben-Adir, Charlayne Woodard, Killian Scott, Samuel Adewunmi, Dermot Mulroney, Christopher McDonald, Katie Finneran, with Emilia Clarke and Olivia Colman, and Don Cheadle.

The first four episodes of Secret Invasion are now streaming on Disney+.

SECRET INVASION: Marvel Studios Confirms First Three Episodes Will Hit Hulu Tomorrow Where Even More People Won't Be Watching It

@Batmangina - this just in: marvel studios paying people to see secret invasion. General audiences still won't see it.

@Origame - ugh. It's just FUGLY at Marvel these days...I watched Winter Soldier the other day and it's like it was a completely different Studio/Company/Characters/Skill Level/etc.

@Batmangina - it's like we're in bizarre world, where suddenly mcu is as terrible as dceu

Except dceu is also terrible now. So life just sucks for us.

@Origame - Agreed - and the social contagion of woke/politically correct mind virus has a chunk of the buying public incapable of telling good content from pandering tripe.

Disney lost over a billion dollars and it's the audience's fault...WTAF

@Batmangina - I give this series barely six months before its removal from Disney + to cut costs.

@Amuro - Shows that originate on a streamer often have a minimal residual footprint. But if not then yeah you gotta wonder.
Origame
Origame - 7/20/2023, 6:34 PM
@JDL - I mean, the makers of willow sited residuals as the reason why it was taken off disney+. Let me reiterate: this show was doing so bad that according to the maker of the show, it was more worthwhile to take the show down to avoid residual payments than to keep the revenue from the show coming in.
JDL
JDL - 7/21/2023, 7:36 AM
@Origame - OK something is screwed up on this, information-wise. There have been a crap-ton of actors and writers complaining about residual checks for pennies and yet series are supposedly getting dropped for just that. It just does not add up. Any idea why ?
Origame
Origame - 7/21/2023, 7:49 AM
@JDL - honestly my guess is the obvious reason for why residuals suck. It's that the shows aren't making much.

Granted I think they have somewhat of a point since overtime the residuals won't make as much as tv reruns, but that's also more of why shows are starting to have a mix of cable showings and streaming.
JDL
JDL - 7/24/2023, 7:46 AM
@Origame - I'm getting the feeling that there are at least two types of payments called residuals that are of wildly different natures and amounts.
Origame
Origame - 7/24/2023, 7:54 AM
@JDL - ...what are these residuals?
JDL
JDL - 7/26/2023, 7:02 AM
@Origame - "I looked into it some more, here's what I think is the issue."

Besides the commonplace residuals streamers also pay out a licence fee to the studios to use material for a set period like a year. You might not think this amounts to anything when both are part of the same overall entity but since back-end profit sharing is based on the liscence fee, setting the amount the fee has become regulated and the amounts are often significant and cause for cancellation.

So basically if ya can’t get people to watch it on the streaming service it’s supposed to be exclusive too you whore it out to other streaming services in hopes to get more people to watch it🤷‍♂️
pmackattack
pmackattack - 7/20/2023, 2:25 PM
@AnthonyVonGeek - Disney owns them both. So the whoring it out doesn't really work here. If anything Disney+ and Hulu should be combined.

@SirDuckAlot - ikr? People actually cared about secret invasion.
AvalonX

With this and Ms Marvel, they might be testing the waters on consolidating services. If no one is watching Andor, Ms Marvel and now Secret Invasion, your platform might have a larger issue besides the fact that they keep making stuff no one cares about and they are ruining their franchises.
FireandBlood

@AvalonX - Not sure why they haven’t already. They already did here in the UK.

It's a good strategy to air prior seasons on free-streamers or cable TV as a promotional strategy.
Would argue that this is perfect for Mando S 1-3 when season 4 comes out.

I'm enjoying Secret Invasion but I think they went in the wrong direction with it. It's coming down to a Fury vs Gravik 1v1, and we all know who's a Skrull and who isn't. I feel that they could have done a bigger espionage story, kept everyone guessing who's a Skrull and who isn't, and built up a larger conspiracy/plot. This series could and should have shaken up the MCU in the same way The Winter Soldier did with the fall of SHIELD, but I can't see it happening. The story just feels too small.

Holy crap this show really removed everything about what made Nick Fury interesting to me.
FireandBlood
FireandBlood - 7/20/2023, 6:31 PM
@JFerguson - They’ve neutered Fury since Captain Marvel tbh. With characters like Fury and Boba, when you start pealing away the layers, you remove the enigma that made them interesting in the first place.
