SECRET INVASION Reveals Another Skrull Imposter And It Will Leave Your Jaw On The Floor - SPOILERS

Did you see that big twist coming? Today's Secret Invasion delivered another jaw-dropping twist by revealing a Skrull imposter who has been hiding in plain sight this entire time. Find more details here...

If you shouted out "I knew it!" during Secret Invasion's closing moments today, you weren't alone.

In last week's episode, we saw an incredibly tense confrontation between Nick Fury and Rhodey which featured the latter acting somewhat out of character. Still, it was easy enough to see why he wasn't happy with the former S.H.I.E.L.D. Director, particularly as he now has an important role to play in the U.S. Government.

A role a Skrull imposter could do a lot of damage with.

Before we get to that, we know many of you picked up on the fact Rhodey called Fury "Nick," something we never hear in the MCU. In today's instalment, Fury points that out to Talos, explaining how he was able to figure out his friend was in trouble.

After Fury's confrontation with Rhodey, he collapsed distraught onto a bench, likely because he realised War Machine is now one of them. That's confirmed in "Betrayed" when his wife Priscilla - who appears to have joined Gravik's movement - goes and retrieves a gun and calls someone asking to speak to Gravik.

That someone is Rhodey, and while the conversation is brief, it confirms he's reporting to that villain and is obviously also a Skrull. Now, the Avenger may just be faking it, but we don't think so, and the fact he's been replaced would explain much of what we've heard about Armor Wars

The question is how long Rhodey hasn't been himself. He was a key part of defeating Thanos in Avengers: Endgame, and it's possible the character in The Falcon and The Winter Soldier was the last time we saw the real deal.

The fact War Machine is a Skrull could be an absolute game-changer for the series and we'll be shocked if he doesn't eventually don that armour in an effort to take Fury down...

Wait, how do we know she was talking to Rhodey?

@Polaris - It was his voice and Don Cheadle was in the credits.

@JoshWilding - Ooh I missed that, thanks!

@Polaris - No problem! Even in the subtitles, he's just identified as "Man on Phone" or something like that, but if you go back and listen closely, it's definitely Rhodey! :)

@JoshWilding - Yeah, I watched with subs and didn't pay too much attention to the voice I guess 😅

It could be a nice reverse plot-twist if he's still a human pretending to be a skrull.

@JoshWilding - Yeah I think that was a dumb way to reveal he's an imposter. That probably went over most people's head. They hould have shot it on camera..

It would be interesting if we find out that Fury is an impostor... but he's not a Skrull.

Sonya Falsworth may have information about a Sgt. Fury who fought during World War II.

There’s something missing from this whole narrative. It’s not working for me. First, the plot doesn’t seem to really have any momentum, with neither the heroes nor villains really acting with progressive action. Maybe that will change over the back half.

More than that, some of the premise isn’t really sticking. A) the idea that Fury ran a shadow network of Skrull operatives seems underbaked, largely because it’s all after the fact, we’ve never actually seen it, and it’s somewhat disconnected from everything else we’ve seen regarding SHIELD. B) they keep hammering this idea that Fury up and moved to a space station for 4 years after the Blip isn’t working, partly because it seemed like a bad joke in Far From Home that was grossly out of character for him.

But more importantly, the premise isn’t working for me because Fury’s been MIA since SHIELD collapsed in Winter Soldier, way before the events of Infinity War. And aside from his brief appearances in Age of Ultron and the Infinity War post credits, we have no idea what he’s been up to.

Similarly, the Skrulls plot isn’t working because we’ve only seen them in Captain Marvel, and this show has a lot of ground to cover to get us up to speed on the grievances and history here. I’d wager that most people didn’t remember much of them from Captain Marvel.

Finally, the political context and moral commentary drag the entire show down. The MCU’s geopolitics have always been muddled: TFATWS suffered greatly from its confused political setting, and here it’s no different. A geopolitical show should at least be clear, if not closer to reality.

As for the moral commentary, the “humans are uniquely innately violent and factious and therefore deserve annihilation” trope is way overdone and simply not creative at this point. It’s not even creative for the MCU - Guardians 3 just did it, and both Avengers 1 and Age of Ultron did versions of it before that. It doesn’t hold water, considering that 1) the second episode makes a point of explaining that they met violence at every planet they tried to settle on, and 2) Guardians 1 and Captain Marvel show us the same sort of violence on an interplanetary scale. It’s also the cheapest form of virtue signaling (“look, I think tribalism and violence are bad”) and a particularly hypocritical stance (“humans’ violent history justifies violence against them”), and those rarely good for a show that wants to draw lines between flawed good guys and sympathetic bad guys.

@DerekLake - Fury wasn't in Age of Ultron. That was Talos. He cut his sandwich the wrong direction.

Best episode so far, here's to hoping the next three are at least 50 minutes. And hopefully Kyle Bradstreet writes the last episodes lol

What a load of garbage.
MCU really striving desperately to save itself.
POS.
Nolanite out.

Can’t have been anytime before infinity war since Talos said he summoned them to earth during the 5 year period

@ShimmyShimmyYA - He could easily be part of the original 19 that turned when Fury disappeared, like his wife did. Would actually explain the wife's connection to this particular Skrull agent.
Deckacards
Deckacards - 7/5/2023, 1:35 PM
@Deckacards - I guess in his case, if it was too long ago, he would've turned earlier than the 5 year mark, but still...that could explain his high-ranking status too.

Seen that coming a mile away, but it doesn't hurt any less. I wonder how long he's been a Skrull. I hope it was after Tony's death.

@comicfan100 - Would be funny if it was since the start of Iron Man 2. The real rhodey being like what? He got his own suit? When do I get one how does it work?

@comicfan100 @kider2- Clearly it happened in between Iron Man and Iron Man 2.

I'm convinced people will bitch and moan about everything....they'll put out the perfect film or show and they will still complain...soft times we live in I guess.

comicfan100 - 7/5/2023, 11:47 AM
@theprophet - Not only that. They had been clamoring for something different for years, and when they finally deliver, they still complain.

@theprophet - They say this show is slow and boring (that's what I thought when I watched first episode) but give pass to boring ass Marvel Netflix shows like it's the Godfather level
TvloverSA
TvloverSA - 7/5/2023, 6:46 PM
@theprophet - that's why I feel like marvel must not give us xmen or F4 because no matter how great it might be it will be a failure...if its different from they're expectation it will be why did they have to change everything attitude and if its within their expectations it will be like marvel are lazy and redundant they just don't know what they want.....as for me I am so happy we are finally getting some serious marvel project which has so much stakes and that puts one on the edge of the sit. When they shot Ghaih didn't know the character much but because of Talos I felt it and how he literally put his daughter on the firing line .

@TvloverSA - i have been enjoying the new marvel shows..secret invasion is pretty damn good...winter soldier vibes and people still complaining. I mean besides dropping the ball with thor 4 and ant man ....most shows and films have been good. I'm convinced if winter soldier or civil war were to come.out nowadays, people will complain about them.

OH WOW... saw it a mile away, but cool i guess

i mean, every Skrull character has a green accessory in their outfit and rhodey had a green tie in last episode

besides... is the only know character in the show that can have an "impact" on the story

Being a Skrull would also explain his language when presenting on the UN, that "If Iceland look at me liek that again..." line...

I could see this being how they restore Rhodey's legs. Or make them worse. Would've been easy to replace him during Civil War when he was injured. Introduce a Skrull replacement when they took him in for surgery and recovery, especially since the recovery phase would've given the Skrull taking his identity time to adjust and the new legs an explanation for any personality differences.

I think it's a fake out honestly. I don't think he's a skull or if he Is a skrull he's working as an ally. He's a double agent. My theory someone screenshot it

The deaths are getting predictable though. I get it, Marvel wants us to think everyone is vulnerable, but in Maria's death and today's death, you knew it was coming as soon as the scene began.

I am enjoying the spy aspect of it, and am at edge of anyone can be a Skrull. However, I am expecting this too be a satisfying ending in 3 weeks.

Almost 12 people are interested in anyone and everyone potentially being a Skrull because the skrulls are already comedy characters thanks to Feigi. Marvel
Is f***ed. The sooner the reboot begins the better. After Deadpool 3 of course because that might be good.
