We're back with another roundup of Marvel Studios movie news, and there's some great stuff here for you today! We kick things off with some shocking remarks from the director of The Godfather before moving on to a very intriguing update on the Merc with the Mouth's current MCU status.

Ultron, meanwhile, has been recast for that new VR game that's been making headlines lately, and Elizabeth Olsen (better known to us as the Scarlet Witch) shares some of the downsides of starring in a franchise which seemingly has no end date.

Oh, and Ryan Meinerding is back with even more amazing Spider-Man concept art!

So, yeah, there's a lot of great content for fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (and beyond), and all you guys have to do to check it out is click on the "View List" button down below...

Francis Ford Coppola Brands Marvel Movies "Despicable"

Avengers

The Godfather Trilogy's director Francis Forc Coppola was recently awarded the Prix Lumiere for his work in the film industry, and Yahoo asked the filmmaker for his thoughts on Martin Scorsese's Marvel movie comments (he said they weren't "cinema" and compared them to theme parks).

"When Martin Scorsese says that the Marvel pictures are not cinema, he's right because we expect to learn something from cinema, we expect to gain something, some enlightenment, some knowledge, some inspiration. I don't know that anyone gets anything out of seeing the same movie over and over again, Martin was kind when he said it's not cinema."

The director then went one step further: "He didn't say it's despicable, which I just say it is."

Deadpool Is Definitely Coming To The MCU...Eventually

Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese are still doing the rounds to promote Zombieland: Double Tap, and the former has now confirmed that they're just waiting to hear from Marvel Studios Presiden Kevin Feige when it comes to bringing the Merc with the Mouth into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

"Kevin Feige has so much on his plate and he is the master of the universe. When Kevin says it’s time, it’ll be time. That may be a year from now, it may be six months from now, it may be three years from now," Wernick tells Fandom. "He doesn’t make a wrong move so whatever decision he makes will be the right one."

"Again, we’re ready to snap to it whenever Ryan gives us that call and says ‘Let’s go.’ And that’s also about finding the right idea and how that fits into the larger MCU universe. It’s a little more complicated than when we were at Fox, but we’re happy to be part of the MCU now and whatever Kevin says, we do,"
he concluded.

We know that Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings will film in Australia, and a new social media post from star Simi Liu may have confirmed that work has already begun in the country.

It's possible he's there for an entirely different reason, bu considering the movie has a release date of February 2021, production beginning soon does make sense.

James Spader Replaced As Ultron In Avengers: Damage Control

The new Avengers: Damage Control video game has been receiving rave reviews from critics, but that's not James Spader voicing the villainous Ultron. Instead, The Walking Dead and Avengers: Endgame star Ross Marquand (he played the Red Skull) was enlisted to take over the role.

"Unfortunately we did reach out to James and we wished he could have done it, but the schedules just didn't align," an unnamed producer told ComicBook.com. "He was working and stuff when this was going on and so it didn't work out, but we got a great voice actor, Ross Marquand."

"He did an amazing job and he's great to work with and a great actor and talented, so it was fun having him onboard and he was super excited," they continued. "So it was great."

The Downside Of Starring In A Marvel Movie

Scarlet

During a recent chat with Entertainment Weekly, Elizabeth Olsen was asked about her future beyond the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and while she clearly loves playing the Scarlet Witch, it sounds like there are some pitfalls to being part of a shared world which is essentially episodic in format.

"The thing that’s been a little hard for me is I would really love to do a four-week independent film, like where there’s a beginning and an end," Olsen explained. "With Sorry For Your Loss, even though I have loved that experience. Being a producer on that show, that’s also like a 10-month job. So, between Marvel and that, it’s been really hard to schedule in the little art films that I would love to be finding time to do. But, I literally don’t have time to do them."

"So, there is a piece of me that’s really missing that. And there’s a piece of me that really wants to get back into theater."
Could that be a sign she wants to wrap up her work in the MCU?

More Amazing Spider-Man: Far From Home Concept Art

Thanks to Marvel Studios Head of Visual Development Ryan Meinerding, we have some spectacular new Spider-Man: Far From Home concert art offers a stunning, hi-res look at the wall-crawler's battle-damaged costume. This is a piece of imagery which looks like it's been torn from the comics!

Is Akira Next For Taika Waititi After Thor: Love And Thunder?

Akira

Taika Waititi's new movie Jojo Rabbit has been scoring rave reviews, and while it sounds like he'll squeeze one more independent film in before shooting Thor: Love and Thunder, what about Akira?

Unfortunately, his work in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is what keeps delaying that long overdue big screen reboot. "Because we were working really hard on the script, we had to keep pushing back the start date for the shoot," he told IGN. "And we ended up having to push it a couple of weeks too far, which actually ate into the Thor schedule. It was very close together."

"Then it got pushed again, and again. It just got too far into the foreschedule to make it work. So now we had to kind of take Akira, and sort of shift it around to the tail end of Thor, and move it down a couple of years. But yeah, still want to make it." Here's hoping it happens then!

Elizabeth Olsen Teases WandaVision

Elizabeth Olsen has been teasing WandaVision a lot lately, and based on this latest set of comments, it definitely sounds like the series will take us to a lot of very unexpected places.

"[WandaVision is] a really clever story, and it’s surprising. It’ll be a good time, and I think fans will really get excited by it as well… I heard the premise and I understood it immediately. I was like, ‘Kevin Feige, you’re a genius!’ I have other questions that I probably still don’t have answers for right now, but I understood exactly what he wanted to do and that really excited me."
