Do you ever get the feeling that Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige saves a list of big reveals for press tours? He certainly dropped some noteworthy bombshells during the WandaVision junket this weekend, and now tells TV Line why the first of these TV shows set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe isn't dropping every episode at the same time.
That's commonplace for many Netflix TV shows, but Amazon bucked the trend with The Boys last year when the decision was made to release episodes weekly (in order to increase viewership and social media buzz over several weeks rather than a single weekend and a few days after).
For Marvel Studios, though, it was The Mandalorian which influenced this decision.
"We had discussions about [dropping the season all at once], but everybody at Disney+ had decided - and we very much agreed with - the notion of the fun of week-to-week. The Mandalorian has certainly proven this p there’s something fun to be able to follow along, to try to guess what happens next, to have a week speculating or rewatching and building that anticipation."
"Part of the fun, to me, of movies, is the anticipation leading up to it, so it’s fun to get to have a ‘mini-version’ of that every week," Feige continued. "And we did build the stories with that in mind, on all of our series. With that said, I think it’ll be another experience - an equally fun experience - to binge them once they’re all available."
The Marvel Studios boss also addressed the runtime of each WandaVision episode, indicating that once the series moves on from the sitcom setting, the length of each instalment might be a little longer (the first three instalments range between twenty and thirty minutes, give or take).
