A recent recap of some What If...? footage that debuted at last year's SDCC reportedly revealed that one episode of the Disney+ animated series is going to feature Tom Holland's Peter as Hawkeye, and now it looks like we might have confirmation.

ComicBook.com's Brandon Davis shared a screenshot from the Marvel Studios: Expanding the Universe featurette on Twitter, and he reckons this is indeed our first look at Parker sporting the costume and hairstyle more closely associated with Clint Barton in the MCU.

It certainly could be, but there's also speculation that we're simply seeing an animated take on Jeremy Renner's archer.

If Parker becoming Hawkeye is to be the focus of one of the What If...? episodes, it's certainly an intriguing premise. "What if Peter Parker became Hawkeye instead of Spider-Man" may not be an alternate universe story fans have been clamoring to see, but without more context it's difficult to form much of an opinion one way or the other.

Work continues remotely on What If...?, which will consist of 23 episodes and is set to premiere on Disney+ sometime in 2021.

Could’ve taken the picture straight up but that’s cool confirmation. Still hope there’s more to this show than “what if X-Hero was Y-Hero instead?”

There’s a lot more they could do with the premise than that.

What If Mbaku won challenge day is an interesting concept

What if Ultron worked and fought Thanos invasion is an interesting concept

What if Star Lord joined Ego is an interesting concept

Heck, what if Spider-Man never gave Mysterio EDITH is an interesting concept

What if Spider-Man shot arrows is not very creative, and makes me worry about how much they're sticking to the heart of the What if comics assuming this ends up being legit

What if Bruce Banner had been cured?
Starting at the end of The Incredible Hulk when he falls out of the plane to fight the Abomination, obviously someone else would have to stop Abomination, but how would things go after without Hulk.

What if Captain America had become the winter soldier?
Basically if Hydra had gotten their hands on frozen cap before Shield.

What if Star Lord was delivered to Ego?
Basically if Yandu had actually taken Quil like he was suppose to.

What if Killmonger had been taken?
Basically if he had been raised with T'Challa, and his father was taken alive.

What if the other avengers survived?
basically Infinity War/Endgame with the snapped heroes surviving instead

@OmegaDaGrodd - I don’t understand or can even fathom how peter Parker could become Hawkeye?Seems like a stupid idea.And definitely doesn’t seem at all what they’ve been telling us this series was going to be

@Tpo81 - yeah. It kinda defeats the purpose of what if where the idea is a change to the story we already know. This is just elseworlds, which is interesting on its own, but isnt what you promise with what if.

The only thing i can think of for this is that peter looked up more to hawkeye then tony, so he used his spider powers to become more of an archery based hero than tech based. But even then its just ignoring the character and what anyone would do to make him hawkeye.

The what if I wanna see is Star Wars. What if Anakin never turned? What if Luke did turn? What if Qui Gon survived? I cannot believe Lucasfilm has not done that yet.

@zachman2013 - They did that with the comics back in the early 2000s, a four issue series for each of the original trilogy films. Luke misses his shot at Yavin, Luke dies on Hoth, etc. Some interesting stuff.
The best bit is in the first one, Like misses his shot on the Death Star, Leia is captured. Han ends up bringing Luke to see Yoda on Dagobah for his training. Yoda tries to pull his same ESB antics and Han is just like “What are you stupid, Luke? This dude is obviously Yoda.”

@Hyperborean - I read those comics. Those were great. It would have been awesome to see that onscreen. If lucasfilm would just do Clone Wars or rebels animation style the what if would be amazing.

I'm a little curious, but mostly indifferent to this show right now. A lot of the premises aren't that interesting to me. I've never once wondered what if T'Challa was Star-Lord or Peter Parker was Hawkeye, these scenarios do nothing for me. I'll definitely give the show a chance though, hopefully they'll do good work.

I can see how T'challa could become Star Lord, its simple, he was taken insted. I can see how Peggy becomes captain America, she was given the sirum instead, but how does a science nerd become a master archer
