With those Marvel Legends action figures for What If...? on their way to stores, we now have a much closer look at the Doctor Strange Supreme Variant who will be highlighted in an upcoming episode.
With that comes a description for the character that reads, "When an unforeseen event changes Stephen Strange's perspective on life, the path he chooses is one filled with even darker magic." Could this be a version of the Sorcerer Supreme who ultimately aligned himself with Dormammu?
Perhaps, but we're intrigued to find out how much this version of Strange will differ from the one we've grown used to seeing in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, especially as the trailer hinted that he could come face-to-face with his "Sacred Timeline" counterpart (or at least see what his life might have become had he not headed down what sounds like an extremely dark path.
A synopsis for the show was shared during last year's Disney Investor Day, revealing: "'What If…?' flips the script on the MCU, reimagining famous events from the films in unexpected ways."
"Coming to Disney+ in summer 2021, Marvel Studios’ first animated series focuses on different heroes from the MCU," it continues, "featuring a voice cast that includes a host of stars who reprise their roles. The series is directed by Bryan Andrews; Ashley Bradley is head writer."
Of course, we've since learned that the show will arrive on Disney+ on August 11, and we'll be present for tomorrow's global press conference to bring you guys plenty of fresh intel. You'll also want to check back here then for our reaction to the first three episodes of Marvel Studios' first animated series...
