We've known that Cate Blanchett is set to reprise her Thor: Ragnarök role as Hela for the second season of Marvel Studios' animated What If...? series for a while now, and some new details on her episode reveal how the villain manages to acquire an incredibly powerful new weapon.

If you haven't already read through the episode titles, spoilers follow.

We recently found out what the final titles of all 10 season 2 episodes will be, and one instalment is going to follow Hela as she harnesses the power of the Ten Rings from the Shang-Chi movie.

Now, insider CWGST (via Toonado.com) has given us a little more to go on.

Apparently, Hela will be "kicked out of Asgard like in Thor: Ragnarök. But instead of being imprisoned in Hel, she finds herself accepted by Ta-Lo and their inhabitants, learning their martial arts. Odin will invade and war between Asgard and Ta-Lo will break out. Hela’s armor will be all white instead of black and green."

A story featuring Hela in Ta-Lo has a lot of potential, and it sounds like the Asgardian Goddess of Death might be portrayed in a slightly more sympathetic light here, since Odin is the one invading the heroic magic-wielders from Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.

It's also been confirmed that the third episode of What If...? will feature the debut of Kahhori, the new Native American superhero created specifically for this show. Marvel has previously shared an official breakdown of her adventure.

"What If…? asks what would happen if the Tesseract fell to Earth and landed in the sovereign Haudenosaunee Confederacy before the colonization of America. The Tesseract takes on a new life and a new mythology, transforming a lake into a gateway to the stars and leading Kahhori, a young Mohawk woman, on a quest to discover her power."

Episode 201: What If... Nebula Joined the Nova Corps?

Episode 202: What If... Peter Quill Attacked Earth's Mightiest Heroes?

Episode 203: What If... Kahhori Reshaped the World?

Episode 204: What If... Hela found the Ten Rings?

Episode 205: What If... lron Man Crashed into the Grandmaster?

Episode 206: What If... Happy Hogan Saved Christmas?

Episode 208: What If... Captain Carter Fought the Hydra Stomper?

Episode 209: What If... The Avengers Assembled in 1602?

Episode 210 : What If... Strange Supreme Intervened?

The second season of What If...? still hasn't been given an official premiere date, but is not expected to debut on Disney+ until Q1 2024, with the third season pencilled in for some time in 2025.

@URCOMMENTSUCKS - The biggest crime of the Thor movies is the under developed realms. Even the ones we saw were mostly barren and boring. This should be Lord of the Rings in space.

@mountainman - The biggest crime of Thor movies is hiring Waititi and moving into stupid comedy direction instead of bringing back Kenneth Branagh and letting him finish the franchise he helped to start. Branagh managed to build the world of the Nine Realms in under 2 hours better than any MCU content related to Thor or Loki afterwards.

@URCOMMENTSUCKS - Agree that Branagh was a good fit. Too bad the studio mandated they waste all that time on Earth in the first one, because the Asgard and Jotunheim stuff was well done.

But don’t forget, they got a new director for the second one. I’d still argue that some of the Asgard stuff was well done in that one too. The Dark Elves were wasted though and once again the Earth stuff was the worst part.

The problem was that Marvel tried and playing it too safe and grounding the character too much.

I don’t like Waititi’s humor, but I do like the Kirby inspired stuff in Ragnarok. Love and Thunder is the worst though.

Odin leading Asgard against Hela leading Ta-Lo is an interesting concept. Hopefully it delivers.

The episodes of this show should be 45 minutes each. Too many of them in season 1 felt far too rushed.

What if Hela was Loki's daughter, Loki was the main villain of Ragnarok, and Thor wasn't a dumbass dipshit who spends half of the story whining about his hammer on Sakar in name only, but instead was adventuring across the Nine Realms with Warriors Three and Sif to obtain the power of the runes to destroy the Elder Gods and end the cycle of Ragnarok?

Would rather see that What If.

@URCOMMENTSUCKS - I did like how spiderman freshman year was basically an extended what if episode about "what if mcu Spiderman was actually like the comics" 🤣

Hela was the best thing about Ragnarok. Without her performance that movie would have been closer to Love and Thunder in terms of quality.

@Forthas

Nah. Bale gave the best performance in L&T and still couldn't save the movie. Hela was barely in this movie. And the performance was fine but it's not enough to tip the scale one way or the other.

They have so much freedom to do whatever they want on these What Ifs and they go with this...

@Urubrodi - admittedly, this has some cool ideas. I think a war between asgard and ta lo could be epic. And hela was already crazy op. Imagine her with the ten rings as well.

@Urubrodi - This actually sounds like one of the more interesting concepts from season 2.

@Origame - Let's wait and see, hopefully it will be a nice surprise, on paper it feels a bit of an odd choice. Just wish they would go for deeper stories. Like the Strange Supreme one from season 1, imo the best episode.

@mountainman - I didn't pay too much attention to the other episode titles and yeah you're right. I wish they'd take a few tips out of the old Marvel What If comics.

@Urubrodi - Yes. Being tied to the MCU limits their possibilities. It’s all essentially “What if this thing from this movie changed a little”.

Wait, she wouldn't find the ten rings in ta lo. That's not where the mandarin found them. In fact the people of ta lo didn't have any idea where the ten rings came from.

I love Hel, she's the best.

Of all the What If...? Episodes, I'm most excited for this one.

I enjoyed Ragnarok a lot, but my one nitpick was making Hel Odins daughter instead of Lokis daughter. I know Marvels Thor is only based on Norse Mythology, not a one to one translation, but that was a weird choice of change.
URCOMMENTSUCKS
URCOMMENTSUCKS - 10/24/2023, 8:53 AM
@mdwilliamson24 - Hela is Loki's daughter in Marvel Comics. Angrboda is her mother. Fenrir, Jormugandr, Sleipnir and Vali are her brothers.

Marvel's Thor isn't one-on-one translation, but it's as close to an accurate reinterpretation of the Eddas as reinterpretations can go.

Also, I mean, it's a bad change, but of all the things one could complain about when it comes to comparing Thor Ragna(NOT)rok and Norse Mythology, I think one would start with the entire premise, the plot and the tone.

Ragnarok in the myths (or comics) isn't some funny space adventure. It's pretty much if the scene at Helm's Deep in the second LOTR movie was made to be a 3h movie, and there would be no happy ending at the end.

mdwilliamson24 - 10/24/2023, 9:20 AM
@URCOMMENTSUCKS - Yeah the Walt Simonson run of Thor comics borrowed the most from the real myths and it was great for it.
I would love to see a faithful movie adaptation of that run.

I just know the MCU version of Thor is already established with many alterations, changes and omissions and we'd never get that style of Ragnarok as Simonson presented it, so I just took entertainment where I could.
Yeah. Waititis Ragnarok is nothing like the comics and is certainly flawed, but I enjoyed it for what

Blanchett really hammed it up in Ragnarok im a good way. I just wish there was more of her.

Also, jimmies were rustled.

What If… Marvel stopped [frick]ing around making up new diverse characters, and made a story about one of their hundreds of existing comic book characters that fans actually care about and want to see on screen?

bkmeijer1 - 10/24/2023, 11:26 AM
That's not really an interesting premise imo. Much rather see Hela and Odin go up against Wenwu, although that doesn't even have to be a What If. That might as well have happened in the MCU itself

I liked Ragnarok. A lot. It was a good-type of different lika GoTG and Waititi's batshit crazy direction seemed to be contained.

But turning Odin into an asshole right after his emotional passing as a loving father was a class-A POS move.

The concepts for these 'what ifs' have been utterly terrible. None of them are stuff that people have really asked themselves.

Who GIVES a [frick]? Why are they still making shows around The Avengers when they have The [frick]ing X-Men? Nobody gives a [frick] about Hela, let alone in God damn animated form!

Is this shit a joke?
