Someone got hungry.
As is there weren't enough reasons to despise the 1%, there was Mason Verger. A sick and depraved soul on
Hannibal who was as chilling and disturbing as they come. Sadly, Michael Pitt who brought the character to the show, has opted not to return for the third season.
Mason Verger played an integral role in the second season, and his story is set to continue in the third season. That said, TVLine is reporting that Joe Anderson (
The River, Horns, Across The Universe) has taken over the role from Pitt.
Anderson in the largely terrible Horns
While this would in most circumstances be bad news to a show like
Hannibal and its fans, Pitt has vacated the role at the best time possible.
*SPOILERS: HIGHLIGHT TO READ* Last time we saw Mason Verger, he had been given halleucigenic drugs, and began to remove parts of his face and feeding those pieces to Will Graham's dogs. This essentially disfigures him beyond recognition.
That said, with Pitt gone, so is his distinct vocal style that made the sociopathic meat packer so despised. Only time will tell what Joe Anderson does with the role; does he emulate Pitt's performance or take a new unique path?
You can find out when
Hannibal Season 3 premieres in Spring 2015.
