Mason Verger Recast For The Upcoming HANNIBAL Season 3

Mason Verger Recast For The Upcoming HANNIBAL Season 3

If you watched Season 2 of Hannibal, you would undoubtebly agree that Mason Verger (as played by Michael Pitt) was one of the best parts of the season. Sasly, Michael Pitt has left the show.

Someone got hungry.

As is there weren't enough reasons to despise the 1%, there was Mason Verger. A sick and depraved soul on Hannibal who was as chilling and disturbing as they come. Sadly, Michael Pitt who brought the character to the show, has opted not to return for the third season.

Mason Verger played an integral role in the second season, and his story is set to continue in the third season. That said, TVLine is reporting that Joe Anderson (The River, Horns, Across The Universe) has taken over the role from Pitt.

Anderson in the largely terrible Horns

While this would in most circumstances be bad news to a show like Hannibal and its fans, Pitt has vacated the role at the best time possible. *SPOILERS: HIGHLIGHT TO READ* Last time we saw Mason Verger, he had been given halleucigenic drugs, and began to remove parts of his face and feeding those pieces to Will Graham's dogs. This essentially disfigures him beyond recognition.

That said, with Pitt gone, so is his distinct vocal style that made the sociopathic meat packer so despised. Only time will tell what Joe Anderson does with the role; does he emulate Pitt's performance or take a new unique path?

You can find out when Hannibal Season 3 premieres in Spring 2015.

Whyyyyyyy??? Michael Pitt did the role PERFECTLY. Dammit man you dedicate 5 years to Boardwalk Empire but you couldn't stick to this? Well hopefully Anderson can do a similar vocal style while his face his hidden under pounds of makeup.

OK. Lemme just say something here.

IF YOU ARE NOT WATCHING HANNIBAL, START WATCHING HANNIBAL.

Absolutely [frick]ing incredible show, and hardly anybody watches it. One of the best things on TV today, if not the best.

As for this news... no idea who the new guy is. Kinda disappointed there had to be a recast.

Pitt was just aping Gary Oldman's brilliant performance in the Hannibal film

Personally I think it was the weakest part of last season

Here's hoping MGM lets NBC use the Silence of the Lambs story line

This was the show that filled my "Breaking Bad" void. I freaking love this show with a passion.

@Ruhail

Looks just like how Verger looked in "Hannibal." That is pretty cool, maybe the recast won't be that bad, since the new guy is going to be mostly hidden in makeup.

Its a shame that Hannibal constantly gets snubbed because its on NBC because, it really is a quality show I can't believe what Bryan Fuller et. al have done with Will its great to see him become a more detailed and complex character who was always more of a one off character in the Hannibal mythology
I also can't wait to see what Bryan Fuller et. al do with Dolarhyde & Murasaki in this upcoming season.

This really sucks for people who are fans of the show, he was damn good. Arguably better than Gary Oldman's portrayal.
