Creating a show like
Stranger Things is no simple task. From establishing the tone to crafting the sets, it requires a tremendous amount of work from hundreds of creative minds. There's no doubt that each set in every episode is meticulously crafted, from the giant set pieces to even the smallest props. In a new behind the scenes video, the cast and crew of Netflix's hit sci-fi show give us an inside look at what it takes to bring to life the world of
Stranger Things.
Unfortunately, the behind-the-scenes look doesn't offer a sneak peek at the upcoming season three, which is currently in production. But it does provide some insight into the ideas and inspirations that go into developing the show.
Things will be slightly different since we last departed Hawkins, Indiana, as the next season
will feature a time hop from season 2 and pick up in 1985. Knowing that it takes place in '85, it's exciting to think about some of the fun references the show's creators will throw in. For starters, 1985 was the year of
Back to the Future and
The Goonies, the latter playing a huge role in the inspiration of
Stranger Things. In terms of video games,
Super Mario Bros. released that year as well, so it won't be surprising if we see the kids huddled around an NES instead of an arcade cabinet.
Production on season three of
Stranger Things kicked off in April. While we don't yet have an exact date, it's expected to premiere sometime in 2019.
