Stephen King And Steven Spielberg Teaming Up For Showtime Under The Dome TV Series!

In what is sure to be great news for any of my fellow Stephen King fans, the epic 2009 novel "Under The Dome" has been picked up by Showtime and will team the writer with director Steven Spielberg.

Deadline report that work is finally underway on the long rumored small screen adaptation of the novel from writer Stephen King, Under The Dome. This is one of my favorite books by King, and it's sure to be an undertaking of epic proportions. It's still in it's early stages, but here is the latest. Be sure to head on over to the site for more details.

In one of Showtime’s most ambitious undertakings, the pay cable network is partnering with Steven Spielberg and Stephen King for Under the Dome, a drama series based on King’s 2009 novel, which will be produced by DreamWorks Television. The supernatural thriller revolves around locals at a Maine vacation spot who battle one another when a force field suddenly surrounds their town and cut them off from the rest of the world. DreamWorks’ Spielberg and Stacey Snider nabbed the rights to Kings’ novel shortly after it was published in November 2009 to strong reviews. Search is underway for a writer to write the project, whose executive producers will include King and DreamWorks TV’s Justin Falvey and Darryl Frank.

What do you guys make of this? Any other books by King you'd like to see make their way onto the small screen? I know that I've been hoping for an adaptation of Cell ever since The Walking Dead opened up to such great reviews...

The book was good, but it felt like it was written for a TV show, and not as a book. Too long though

this is great news, one of King's best. i love this book. wasn't Cell rumored to be done by JJ Abrams? the only thing that would top this is if The Dark Tower actually got done. as a young aspiring filmmaker, my dream has always been to make TDT series, maybe they're waiting for me lol. in all seriousness, i've super hyped for 11/22/63!!!!

Heaviest book ever. Never even finished it, and as far as King goes, besides the Stand, this will be the second one. Unfortunately I've yet to see a book to screen project that has worked either.

@hatakiyama - LOL, I honestly think Abrams has been linked to shoot every movie for King since Nozaala cola was featured in Lost. First the tower and also Cell.

it would be impossible for The Dark Tower to be done correctly. They need to never make that. ever.

I think Mr. King may have gotten the basic idea of this story from the Simpson's Movie!!

This HAS to happen!!!! Such an awesome book, this will make an epic show.

@wiseme - No, he had the outline and most of the book written back in the 70s, around the time he wrote the Shining, he just never finished it.

@ 8thDynasty, no connection to the DT that I can think of, although there is a reference to IT. Honestly, Under The Dome is better than any of the DT books.

I really liked the novel.

Especially the necrophilia.

Will even Showtime have the balls to include that?

I thought I heard a while back this might happen, now that it is I can't F'n wait. Great book, good characters, it's sure to make a good series. I wonder if they will go into more about how the dome came to be.
I suggest any who might have interest in the series to read the book if they havn't.
Now bring on The Dark Tower too!
