Screeners for the first two episodes of Ahsoka were sent out to critics late last night, and the social media embargo has now lifted.

The initial reactions have been largely positive, but not everyone was overly impressed. Most seem to agree that Rosario Dawson makes a welcome return as the titular Force-wielder, with strong support from Mary Elizabeth Winstead (Hera) and the late Ray Stevenson (Baylan), but it sounds like Natasha Liu Bordizzo is a major standout as Sabine Wren.

The action sequences/lightsaber duels also come in for a lot of praise, as does the stunning score by Kevin Kiner.

Some of the more negative reactions mention a slightly sluggish pace and some tonal inconsistencies, and there is a chance viewers who have not seen the Star Wars Rebels animated series might feel like they're playing catch-up to an extent.

Check out the reactions below, and we'll update as more come in.

Set after the fall of the Empire, Ahsoka follows the former Jedi knight Ahsoka Tano as she investigates an emerging threat to a vulnerable galaxy.

The series stars Rosario Dawson in the title role, with Natasha Liu Bordizzo as Sabine Wren, Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Hera Syndulla, Diana Lee Inosanto as Morgan Elsbeth, Ivanna Sakhno as Shin Hati, Ray Stevenson as Baylan Skoll, David Tennant as Huyang, Lars Mikkelsen as Grand Admiral Thrawn, with Eman Esfandi appearing as Ezra Bridger.

Kevin Kiner was announced as the series' composer.

Ahoska is written by executive producer Dave Filoni, alongside executive producers Favreau, Kennedy, Wilson, and Beck. Gilchrist is co-executive producer. The series’ directors include Filoni, Steph Green, Peter Ramsey, Jennifer Getzinger, Geeta Vasant Patel and Rick Famuyiwa.

Hope it's good but star wars is on life support now. The name star wars has little weight. All the goodwill it had is gone!

Should put it to rest for 5 plus years to be honest💁

@AmazingFILMporg - Agreed. They should cancel everything and after 5 years come up with an original story set after 5000 years in the future of ep 9 or something.

@PlusUltra - Book of Boba Fett and Hawkeye all over again...
FireandBlood
FireandBlood - 8/18/2023, 11:04 AM
@soberchimera - Well Hawkeye was always advertised and intended to be a Kate Bishop centric show, so not the same

@PlusUltra - Strongly disagree, but hey...

FireandBlood

@soberchimera - It’s not really up for debate to disagree with. From the moment it was announced at comic con, it was promoted as a Kate Bishop show with Barton in a mentor role, and that’s exactly what it was.

@PlusUltra - It’s not really up for debate to disagree with.
Again, strongly disagree, I merely need to look at who receives first billing in the credits.

@PlusUltra - then they should have called it the Kate Bishop show. same for that Layla El-Faouly show, and that sylvie show and that wanda movie from last year.
FireandBlood
FireandBlood - 8/18/2023, 2:04 PM
@harryba11zack - They did. It’s called Hawkeye, and Kate Bishop is Hawkeye. She’s shared that mantle with Clint for over a decade now.

@harryba11zack - Yeah, mantle. You understand how they work, right? As well a the concept of legacy? It’s all the rage in the comics, you should look it up

@PlusUltra - sounds like a cheap excuse to leech off the sucess of the OG.

@harryba11zack - Something tells me you would’ve had a problem with Kate either way.

@PlusUltra - ? not really she was alright. Just not a fan of name stealing. I prefer when sidekick's take elements from their teachers but become their own like Nightwing and Arsenal.

@harryba11zack - Name sharing* and mantle passing*

But that’s fair enough

Hopefully people have watched rebels. I tell people all the time to watch the animated shows. They are so integral to the live action shows.

@Order66 - while I agree, especially since animation needs way more recognition in the west (I swear it was so cringe watching the Oscar's being so smug talking about animation as just for kids), I'd say this is pretty poor planning on disney. They had to have known the animated shows weren't gonna be viewed by everyone. So why make them so integral?

@Order66 - yep this is pretty much for that small audience. nobody else knows who these folks are.

@Origame - I feel like there a way to do this that benefits both animated watchers and non animated watchers. Disney hasn’t found that middle ground yet

It's wild that so many reactions are really positive, with like one negative, and these comments are already marking this show as bad. Typical. I can't wait to watch it! Love Rebels, it's some of the best SW content out there.
