We've known for a while that Hayden Christensen will once again reprise the role of Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader in the upcoming Ahsoka series, but new details about some enormous plans for the Sith Lord have now been revealed.
According to Making Star Wars (via SFFGazette.com), the actor required training for an action sequence, confirming we can expect to see Anakin's face on screen. That will happen during both live-action flashbacks to The Clone Wars and in a sequence with the hero turned villain in the costume he wore during his battle against Obi-Wan Kenobi on Mustafar in Revenge of the Sith.
These aren't your standard flashbacks, though; they'll come when the present-day Ahsoka Tanoa returns to Star Wars Rebels' World Between Worlds, learning that no matter what decisions she made, the outcome would always be the same. For example, had she returned to the Jedi Order, Anakin would have still succumbed to the Dark Side.
In fact, we'll see that Ahsoka would have been the one facing him on Mustafar in place of Obi-Wan!
Ahsoka is also going to learn that Anakin was always destined to become Darth Vader, and a new actor will take over the role from Rosario Dawson so we can see what the younger Jedi would have looked like had she battled her Master and friend on Mustafar.
There will be other visions, though, including Ahsoka killing Grand Admiral Thrawn. While that means Ezra Bridger wouldn't have needed to use the Purrgil, her fate would remain the same, with the lesson being here that Ahsoka can't change her destiny and needs to move past her regrets.
This sounds like both a huge moment for the character and a clever way to show the Star Wars Universe in a whole new light. Needless to say, we have a feeling this series is going to be something really special.
Ahsoka is set to premiere on Disney+ sometime in 2023.
