THE BOOK OF BOBA FETT Star Temuera Morrison Thinks His Character Speaks "Far Too Much" In The Series

According to The Book of Boba Fett actor Temuera Morrison, the titular bounty hunter has far too many lines in the Disney+ series, to the point that he tried to portion some of them off to his co-star.

Boba Fett is a bounty hunter of very few words... or at least, he was before The Book of Boba Fett.

Despite featuring in both Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back and Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi, Boba Fett famously had a very minimal amount of screentime and only a grand total of six lines of dialogue (one of those being a scream as he plummets to his apparent demise).

In the Book of Boba Fett, however, Boba is quite talkative. At least, in comparison to how taciturn he was in the original Star Wars trilogy. This is something that even the actor who plays Boba in the series, Temeura Morrison, took note of. In fact, Morrison tried to give most of his lines to Fennec Shand actress Ming-Na Wen in an effort to preserve the mysterious and reticent aura of his own character.

"I was not very successful, I was hoping not to say as much as I have already in the first two episodes," Morrison told NME. "I speak far too much. In fact, in the beginning, I was trying to pass my lines on to Ming-Na [Wen]. I said: 'Excuse me director, I really feel that Ming-Na should say these lines, 'cause I wanna stay mysterious. I wanna stay quiet.'"

Morrison even went as far as to reach out to series creator Jon Favreau and writer Noah Kloor in an attempt to get Boba's word count minimised. "Sometimes, I'd say [to Favreau], 'I think this is too much, I think this is too much. I said: 'Noah, this scene tomorrow. I'm talking too much! This Boba Fett doesn't talk this much. Look, I've got all these paragraphs. I think we should get rid of it and Jon's going to Atlanta so don't tell him!'"

Morrison went on: "Then, that morning on set, I get a call from Atlanta: 'Jon wants you to say all that dialogue. We'll cut it out later.' (laughs) So he was even keeping an eye on us from all areas."

Though Morrison admits that Boba's dialogue is a necessity, seeing as a lot of the show revolves around revealing what happened between the events of Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi and The Mandalorian, he holds true that if he had his way Boba would not be speaking nearly as much as he does in the series. "I had to start talking I guess. We had to fill in the gaps and give out a little bit of information… But yes, I think I did speak a bit too much."

In related news, Morrison recently expressed interest in playing the characters of Captain Rex and Commander Cody in another potential live-action Star Wars series.

he needs to start wasting some fools already. it's weird though, they seem to be going out of their way to make Fett as lawful neutral as possible and yet they didn't have issue with Mando racking up his body count from the get go despite him being the main character.

I don't think this is a Boba Fett show anyone would've asked for. He's almost unrecognisable as the character he was in the OT. If someone claps back with "what character" I stg.

Why can't we just have a show about bounty hunting? This is the second time they've trojan-horsed a show about something else with the promise of it being about a Mandalorian bounty hunter. You take the quintessential Star Wars bounty hunter guy and you make a show about being a diplomatic crime lord.

Even the actor can see it. And he takes his helmet off way too much.

@Kurban - seriously. Like in the middle of the [frick]ing city. Filled with people who want to kill him. Completely lost all of his mystique.

They should talk to Genndy Tarakovsky about doing a canon star wars series.

A true master of visual storytelling

You know with the popularity of Mandalorian, Rogue One and Rebels and the disapointment with the sequels and book of fett, maybe they should avoid putting too much focus on classic characters, because they really dont seem to get them

@dracula - Especially since this Boba might as well not be a continuation of Boba at all.

They must have put the flashbacks in there for the sole purpose of reminding you that this is even the same guy. Don't worry, guys. This is a show about Boba Fett. Look, here he is on Kamino! This flashback will serve no other purpose than:

The show is actually good. I enjoy it. I just don’t get why it’s about Boba Fett.
It’s weird, because I was honestly just fine with how he was portrayed in Mandalorian. He was killing people left and right in that show, so what’s the deal here?
