It's fair to say that Hayden Christensen did his best working on the Star Wars prequels, but Obi-Wan Kenobi feels like it could serve as redemption for the actor. In the upcoming Disney+ series, the actor will don Darth Vader's iconic costume for a rematch with his Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith co-star Ewan McGregor, but how did it feel to suit up in this Galaxy Far, Far Away again?
Christensen first wore Vader's iconic armour in Episode III, of course, and in a couple of interviews promoting the show in London yesterday, he reflected on what it was like to wear the outfit again.
"It was surreal. It's an incredible costume and putting it back on again brought up a lot of emotions for me. It's amazing to get to wear it and an honour to put it on. It's just a lot of fun really," the actor explains, recalling his first time back in the costume. "It's incredibly heavy. It's a beast to wear and not designed for bathroom breaks. It comes with the job!"
In another interview, Christensen elaborated by saying, "That costume comes with such a presence. You put it on and it informs so much of the way you feel. For me, it was very cathartic in a way too. This is a character that's meant a lot to me and stays with me over the years so getting to come back and continue was an emotional experience."
While he doesn't mention it here, we're also excited to see what lies beneath Vader's helmet. Flashbacks are expected to factor into Obi-Wan Kenobi, while rumour has it we'll see what remains of Anakin Skywalker in a sequence showing how the villain is pieced together at the start of each day.
Obi-Wan Kenobi premieres on May 27. Check out both interviews with Christensen below:
