OBI-WAN KENOBI's Latest Episode Brings Back Darth Vader For A Long-Awaited Rematch - SPOILERS Follow

The latest episode of Obi-Wan Kenobi kicked off with Darth Vader's return, and yes, James Earl Jones has indeed returned to voice the iconic Sith Lord!

We first got to see how Anakin Skywalker starts his day by visiting his castle on Mustafar, which is only the second time we've spent time there in live-action following the location's debut in 2016's Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. What followed was the seemingly excruciating process of Vader's armour being applied after a night in his Bacta Tank.

After a tense exchange with Reva that seemed to indicate that The Grand Inquisitor is indeed dead (leaving us very confused about how Star Wars Rebels fits into all this), Vader eventually arrives on the planet where Obi-Wan and Leia have taken refuge following their escape last week. Brutally murdering innocent locals, Anakin clearly senses his old Master and tracks him down to a nearby port.

As you might expect, "Ben" is horrified to see his old friend, asking "What have you become?" To that, Vader responds, "I am what you made me." An intense, violent battle follows, with it quickly becoming clear that Obi-Wan is no match for the powerful Sith. Using the force to hold him aloft, Vader sets a fire, and proceeds to drag his old ally through the flames.

Vader clearly has evil plans for his former master as he tells Kenobi that his pain has only just begun, but Indira Varma's Imperial deserter arrives to distract the villain and helps Ben escape. However, he's badly burned, and Leia has fallen into the clutches of The Third Sister!

Another battle is clearly on the horizon, but this first meeting between the two - while fairly light on dialogue - definitely didn't disappoint.

Thank god you wrote SPOILERS after the headline spoiling the episode. Good job as always, Josh!

@JstaKIDfrmBKLYN - yeah came to say the same… “spoilers follow”, more like spoilers to start

Wonder how they will justify the duel

They flat out say in a new hope that when they last met

I've been waiting for you, Obi-Wan. We meet again, at last. The circle is now complete. When I left you I was but the learner. Now, *I* am the master.

Should not have met again until a new hope

@dracula - Because his statement was "We meet again" implying we as in Vader and Obi Wan. Vader stated that Anakin Skywalker was no more and that Darth Vader was who remained. So it would make sense that when Vader speaks of meeting again it's because the first time Vader fought Obi Wan was now the battle in his show. Where as the last battle Anakin had with Obi Wan was Mustafar.

@dracula - If Obi-Wan's character arc plays out and he regains his mojo by the final episode when I assume they will meet again, and he schools Vader in that meeting, then it would make sense for me.

@SonOfAGif - I guess in Revenge of the Sith when Palpatine dubbed him Vader, Anakin hadn’t really fulfilled that name I suppose

@CommentResponse - ya great lets make vader look like a bitch. Wouldn't put it past kennedy/Lucasfilm they've ruined every other character.

@dracula - @dracula - well far as i remember they said Obi Wan and Vader will meet more than once in the show, Vader literally dragged a tired and broken Obi Wan all over the dirt and fire, now Obi can find a resolution towards his feelings and guilt about what happened to Anakin, he ain't no longer the kid he knew and has become a monster, beat his ass teaching him he doesn't know exactly everything about him and he's still the powerful Jedi Knight we all know and love.

Vader was basically punching and old man,but that old man has a past about great wars and battles, and is about to teach him a [frick]ing lesson which will sting Vader until EpIV.

What the hell is the point of spoiler tag if you INCLUDE the spoilers in the title @joshwilding? What an insensitive thing to do.

It was disappointing that Vader did not use force to crush the droid like an empty soda can when the droid was helping Obi Wan.

Perhaps Vader doubted...

@Repian - I think it's because to him, he saw C3PO. And even in Vader form I don't think he could harm C3PO

@Repian - i think that was that tiny bit of good he had in him, as soon as he saw the droid helping obi wan he walked away

Fight felt like a fan film. Very amateurish. The writing and directing has been terrible on this show.

@SirDuckAlot - exactly what I've been saying. I was so excited for this danm show and it's been a joke. The writing and directing are awful and it's filled with continuity issues. Having kenobi/vader fight is a huge mistake. Everyone is just all excited about lightsaber fights and name drops, they don't give a danm if the story works or not. Lucas always said that after ROTS the next time they meet is in a new hope. Idk why Kathleen has to trample over everything george did.

The good: Vader's voice.

The bad: Literally everything else.

@DarthOmega - I noticed that too. James Earl Jones' voice in Rogue One sounded off for some reason, but Vader sounded much more like himself this time around.

@generictheeric - The voice technology didn't exist when they made Rogue One. So they used James Earl Jones's againg voice... Which didn't sound terrible, but it was very noticably weaker. They most likely used the same tech they did for Luke in Book of Boba Fett to "Deepfake" the voice. The voice machine learning tech is becoming more sophisticated by the day.

I have to be honest... It's a little frightening. In the wrong hands this can lead to some bad outcomes.

I enjoyed the episode but their little scuffle was honestly disappointing. Let’s see if they duel again later in the series. If not, at least we have the Obi-Wan/Vader duels in Episodes 3 and 4.

kathleen wanted this show to fail so she killed their budget and gave it all to rogue one prequel
