STAR WARS EPISODE I RACER: The Classic 90s Video Game Is Coming To The PS4 And Nintendo Switch

If you grew up in the 90s, then you'll no doubt remember the classic Star Wars Episode I Racer video game which was available on the N64, Dreamcast, and PC. Now, it's been revealed that the Star Wars: The Phantom Menace tie-in is set to be re-released on the PS4 and Nintendo Switch.

Lucasfilm and developer Aspyr haven't announced a release date, but it's expected to arrive later in the Spring. Based on the memorable podracing sequence from the first prequel movie, Episode 1 Racer, "puts you behind the controls of your favorite podracers as you speed through flaming methane lakes, Tusken Raider assaults, anti-gravity tunnels, and much more."

This version of the game is going to feature 25 playable racers (including Anakin Skywalker, Sebulba, and Ratts Tyerell), and race tracks across world like Tatooine, Baroonda, and Malastare. There won't be a multiplayer mode, but both versions of the game will boast split-screen multiplayer.

This isn't a remaster, but fans have been crying out for a re-release for years now, and it really couldn't come at a better time, especially now most of us are forced to stay indoors. With any luck, we'll have a confirmed release date sooner rather than later, as it will be great fun replaying this awesome racer.

Will you guys download Star Wars Episode I Racer once its available?

Podracer was great for the time, but janky as hell (if memory serves). But they just do not make games like they did in the 90's. The graphics and production values and voice acting have all gotten better since then, but the games have not.

(He said before booting up an emulator to play Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together.)

I just want to be extra super clear here: I absolutely bought the rerelease of TO on the PSP, but my PSP and games are lost somewhere. So, I definitely patronized the company for making it.

I've given Square Enix so much of my money to make tactics games over the years... for all it the good it did me. Now the best I can get from them is that new mobile game. And it's alright, but I'm getting pretty allergic to F2P gacha games that just want to soak up your time and dangle goodies behind thinly veiled gambling.

A couple of years ago Jake Lloyd, the kid who played Anakin Skywalker in Phantom Menace, was arrested in South Carolina after leading the police in a high speed chase.

I’d pay full price for a remaster or a sequel. I even remember buying “Racer Revenge” back in 2002 on release day. Maybe this rerelease is Disney’s way of testing the waters for more podracer games?

this game and the one where you got to do a bunch of spaceship battles were awesome.

Easily my favorite video game in the age of Windows 99 gaming.

Racer: Revenge was a darn good game, & unlocking Darth Vader is an incredible challenge. Wish that would release on the Switch too, I enjoyed the PS4 port (got it with my Vader PS4) and it's were I was finally able to unlock Vader & Maul. Anyway, never played this game & I've been thinking of buying it on GOG, so I will probably bite on this Switch port.

Anyone wanting to play Republic Commando and has an able laptop or PC, it's on GOG along with a whole bunch of classic Star Wars games you may also be interested in playing.

This has been on PS online for awhile now... I paid $4.99 for it and "Super Star Wars" at least a year ago.
