Skeleton Crew has somewhat flown under the radar before now, but the Lucasfilm Studio Showcase panel at Star Wars Celebration made it clear today that this isn't a series we should dare overlook.
Jude Law surprised fans by arriving on stage, welcoming his young co-stars Ravi Cabot-Conyers, Kyriana Kratter and Robert Timothy Smith. Unfortunately, the crew was down a member as Ryan Kiera Armstrong was unable to attend due to illness, but the trio all recounted how they discovered Star Wars while sharing their excitement to join the iconic franchise.
Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy reiterated the show's Amblin influence, while Jon Favreau recalled that now-familiar story about Jon Watts pitching the project to him while they were shooting Spider-Man: Far From Home.
Other cast members confirmed for Skeleton Crew include Tunde Adebimpe and Kerry Condon, while the directing team consists of Watts, Christopher Ford, David Lowery, the Daniels, Jake Schreier, Bryce Dallas Howard, and Lee Isaac Chung.
We also have a brief synopsis for the series that reads, "'Skeleton Crew' follows the journey of four kids who make a mysterious discovery on their seemingly safe home planet, then get lost in a strange and dangerous galaxy. Finding their way home—and meeting unlikely allies and enemies—will be a greater adventure than they ever imagined."
For those of us in attendance in London, a new trailer for the show also debuted and, if you've not been overly excited before now, trust us when we say it's time to change that!
Kicking off at a school, we follow a couple of these kids as they ride a speeder through the forest. They long for adventure beyond the classroom and, when their parents return home one night, they're gone! One of the girls is wearing a visor that brings back memories of a certain other franchise with "Star" in the title, and we saw lots of flashes of them exploring the Galaxy together.
The Mandalorian villain Vane makes a fleeting appearance and it appears pirates will be the ones menacing this group. The kids are definitely in over their heads, and they eventually find themselves behind bars. Luckily, a key floats to the door, and one exclaims, "He's a Jedi!"
The Jedi in question removes his hood and, yes, it's Jude Law's unnamed character. Consider us intrigued!
It was also confirmed that Skeleton Crew is still heading our way later this year.
