Rian Johnson's take on the Star Wars franchise may have divided fans, but there was still a lot to love about The Last Jedi (especially from a visual perspective). Knives Out even earned the filmmaker an Oscar nomination for "Best Original Screenplay," and while he's going to be busy with that movie's two sequels for a while, it sounds like he's keen to helm an episode of The Mandalorian too.
USA Today reporter Sariah Wilson recently interviewed Johnson and confirmed that the director has expressed an interest in working on the Disney+ series (going so far as to discuss it with Dave Filoni).
"I asked Rian if he'd ever consider doing an episode of The Mandalorian," she revealed. "He said he was dying to, but that for him it's all about scheduling. He's been writing [Knives Out 2] and now he's going to go directly into filming it. So it would be a matter of finding time to break away and do it. He said he has spoken to Dave Filoni about it."
We probably shouldn't bank on Johnson returning to a Galaxy Far, Far Away for the foreseeable, whether it's The Mandalorian or his long-delayed trilogy of movies. The director is earning $100 million for his Knives Out sequels, so as you might expect, those will be a priority for the time being!
