THE MANDALORIAN Easter Egg May Shed Some Light On [SPOILER]'s Future Role In The Series

This week's episode of The Mandalorian dropped plenty of bombshells, but one of the biggest came when we learned that Grand Admiral Thrawn was the Magistrate's master. Since disappearing alongside Ezra Bridger at the end of Star Wars Relebs, the villain has clearly been busy, especially if he has subordinates reporting to him from across the Galaxy.

While we don't know exactly what he's up to - he could be also Moff Gideon's boss, or simply looking to regain his former power after the fall of the Empire - it seems clear that there's big plans for Thrawn moving forward. Now, eagle-eyed fans have spotted what could be a key Easter Egg.

The HK-87 assassin droids that served the Magistrate quite clearly have the markings of the Seventh Fleet, a faction of Imperials better known as "Thrawn's Fleet" in the Expanded Universe.

In that continuity, they were based in the Unknown Regions during the Galactic Civil War and set out to create a defence against any outside threats to Emperor Palpatine's rule. In canon, they were a big part of Star Wars Rebels and blockaded Ezra Bridger's home planet of Lothal.

There's clearly something in the works for Thrawn in The Mandalorian or an upcoming spinoff series, and this tease appears to confirm that he may be using his old resources or still in charge of his Imperial fleet. Either possibility is intriguing, and sheds some light on what he's been up to.

Why Ezra remains M.I.A. is a story for another day, it seems...

Yeah got that too. Wonder what the endgame is gonna be here though. I think Thrawn and Gideon will be seperate storylines.

My guess is that we'll find Thrawn and Ezra working together with the Chiss Ascendancy in a fight against the Grysk, since Filoni did once say that both are alive because the Purgill had a plan for them. And Zahn knew how he wanted to continue Thrawn's story, but was held back because he didn't knew what Filoni's exact plans are.

Thrawn hides on the outer edge, gathering a great Imperial fleet to attack the heart of the New Republic.

The events of "Heir to the Empire" take place 5 years after Return of the Jedi, in the time period of The Mandalorian. So I wish to see an adaptation of the Thrawn trilogy

Thrawn was never a true believer, had no real love for the empire other than at the time they were the big dogs in the yard, with palatine "gone" he's the biggest dog in the yard. Gideon is likely trying to make dark troopers as much against him as against the new Republic

I really don’t know if Thrawn is going to be a major player in this series. Last episode felt like a test run to see if Ahsoka could work (and be accepted by the fan base) in live action. I think it’s more likely we see Thrawn take center stage in that rumored Live action rebels follow up series.
