The saga of The Mandalorian is coming to Marvel Comics! Kicking off this July, Star Wars: The Mandalorian will be an eight-issue adaptation of the Disney+ series' first season, giving fans a chance to relive the events and characters of Season 1 through the lens of writer Rodney Barnes and artist Georges Jeanty. We may know how the story goes, but this is a whole new way to explore it.

From the thrilling introduction of Mandalorian bounty hunter Din Djarin to his unforgettable first encounter with the Child, Grogu, these iconic Star Wars moments will be brought to life in a brand-new way, and you can get your first look at the highly-anticipated debut issue right now in a special preview!

"The story of the Mandalorian checks so many boxes of the stuff I’m passionate about," Barnes recently told StarWars.com about the upcoming series. "I love Westerns, fantasy, science fiction, comedy, drama…it’s a dream gig for any writer. I’m just glad I was chosen for this assignment!"

There's some epic artwork below, though we do hope to get some new stories told in comic form.

Take a look at the various covers and some preview pages ahead of Star Wars: The Mandalorian #1's release on July 6, and keep checking SFFGazette.com for the latest on this fan-favourite franchise.

Art looks cool, but why write a story already told? Wouldn't it be more worth it telling The Mandalorian's story before meeting Grogu or possibly adventures that didn't happen on screen?

@Urubrodi - I don't know if they ever considered it (at least I don't remember reading or hearing about it) but how cool would it be if this story they created for Din Djarin was instead about Boba Fett?

A small tweak at the beginning with him escaping the Sarlacc, going to live with those mandalorians at the beginning would do the trick, easy.

I love the Mando character but Boba Fett deserved this level of lore.

@Fogs - Din Djarin is possibly the best addition Disney made to Star Wars so I would keep him, but I do agree that Boba deserved more, his series was a bit of a letdown on parts.

@Urubrodi - I mean, this is common practice to adapt movie and show stories into comics.

@Urubrodi - I agree 100%. Mandalorian is one of the only good Disney SW stuff IMO.

The thing is it would be nice if he was Boba from the start. Hope his show takes off in S2.

@Fogs - If the story had been created for Boba Fett fans had ripped it to shreds. To much nostalgia and way too high expactations due to him being a legacy character. There is a reason why they didn't use any legacy characters in season 1, but an original Mandaloran and IG-11 instead of IG-88.

@Drace24 - point taken and makes sense. S1's highest feat IMO was everything was new (except for Tatooine, IMO it shouldn't be featured)

Why waste good artist’s time drawing something that already exists in live-action. Just tell a new story…

@MrDandy - Why waste good actor's time on something that already exists in print?

I don't get it either, but there's a market for it.

@Reeds2Much - A few reasons:
- the majority of people watch movies and not read comic books
- most comic book adaptations are not direct translations like this one
- comic books allow for more nuanced and in depth stories as you can go in detail about certain characters, plot lines... meaning that is a waste to simply recreate something that people already watched
- and let's be honest as great as comics are, being able to see iconic characters, moments and stories brought to life is much more exciting than bringing those back to the page (this last one is a biased opinion)

@Urubrodi - I agree with your reasoning, I just don't agree with the practice.

@MrDandy - few reasons 1 it be mando and grogu first official comic appearance ,

2 Star Wars comic fans if they ever meet people at comic con bring comic in they all can sign comic bring value up people in show and people work on book , get autographs all one thing which will have more value than one photo autograph of Carl edwards alone

3 Batman animated series cartoon came first I believe then comic which is very first appearance of harley quinn in comic format and that issue still popular and expensive get hold of same can be said about terry macguiness Batman beyond first appearance , transformers started out as cartoon series and then comic

In this day and age, when either a physical media or streaming release (in some cases, both) of most popular movies and tv-shows are easily accessible, not to mention certain "other sources", are there any point in direct comic book adaptations or novelizations anymore? Why not just make a Mandalorian comic about his adventures that weren't showed in the actual series?

So they do an extremely late adaptation to this but for years ignored making comics based on the MCU movies? Back when I was a kid there was a comic adaptation based on everything from comic book movies to James Bond, Indiana Jones and pretty much every sci fi and fantasy movie when the movie was originally released.
This is definitely a couple years too late.

Back when I worked at a comic store I was always surprised when these came out and the amount of people getting them. It’s literally just what you’ve seen on screen lol
