The jaws of Star Wars fans everywhere were left on the floor when Ahsoka Tano mentioned "Thrawn" in The Mandalorian, and it immediately became clear that the former Jedi was still on the hunt for the Grand Admiral and Ezra Bridger.
While it was initially reported that a Star Wars Rebels sequel would take the form of an animated series, it's since become clear that the live-action Ahsoka will instead fill that void. As a result, there's been a lot of discussion when it comes to who should play Ezra and Thrawn.
Well, LRM Online is now claiming to have confirmed that Aladdin star Mena Massoud will play the young Jedi who disappeared alongside Thrawn in the season finale of Rebels. This has been rumoured for a while now, with the actor even sharing a quote from the character on his Instagram page.
As for Thrawn, we're sure many of you will be pleased to learn that Lucasfilm has turned to Lars Mikkelsen to reprise the role after so wonderfully bringing him to life in animated form.
Their ages match up (Benedict Cumberbatch remains a fan-favourite choice, but that really wouldn't work at this point in the timeline), while it's easy to imagine Mikkelsen with that blue skin. Clearly, something has happened to lead to Thrawn's escape from wherever he and Ezra ended up, and the mystery now appears to be the whereabouts of the young Jedi.
Either way, we have a feeling that Ahsoka will reveal more about Thrawn's possible role in both the Emperor's return and the rise of the First Order. Of course, while this site claims to have confirmed the news of this casting, nothing is officially official until Lucasfilm weighs in with an announcement.
