Last night, news broke that The CW has decided not to move forward with the current incarnation of its live-action Powerpuff adaptation, with writers/executive producers Diablo Cody and Heather Regnier starting from scratch with a new take on the material.

Now, the original script has reportedly leaked online, and let's just say it's not exactly difficult to understand why they felt the need to go back to the drawing board with this one.

We knew this take on the classic kids' animated series would age-up the characters and put a more mature spin on the premise, but we weren't anticipating this level of adult content. Look, maybe there is a market for a Powerpuff show in which Blossom threatens to leak Buttercup's nudes before interrupting her sister's marathon sex session, but if it's going to work, it'll probably need to be a just a little better-written.

Just in case you think we're being a bit harsh, have a look at some of the excerpts in the thread below.

Maybe it would have been better in execution? Thankfully, we'll never have to find out.

As far as we know, stars Chloe Bennet, Dove Cameron, Yana Perrault, and Donald Faison are staying on board for whatever this new (hopefully much-improved) take on Powerpuff turns out to be, but the show is still not guaranteed to move forward.

@Goldboink - stuff like this reinforces my thought sometimes that someone off of the street who has a deep love and knowledge of movies could write a better script than a lot of these screenwriters.

@BlackBeltJones - This is just done by people who really have no respect for the show. Like the live action Scooby-Doo movies weren't good, but you could tell James Gunn had some respect for the show, but wanted to present it in a satircal way. This just feels spiteful.

Right you are. I have done better than that sitting around the coffee table shooting the stoned bull with my boys.

That was a pretty tough read. It's funny to think that it really did make everyone on set, actors included, groan so much that they stopped production. The series isn't intended for me but it's good that they're going in a different direction I guess.
