VENOM Director Ruben Fleischer Confirms That Kevin Feige Had No Involvement With The Movie

While Kevin Feige is currently in charge of Spider-Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it's now been revealed that Marvel Studios had no role in the development of Venom. Hit the jump for details...

Despite the improved relationship between Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios (which has brought Spider-Man into the Marvel Cinematic Universe and given Kevin Feige creative control over him), Venom director Ruben Fleischer has confirmed in a new interview that he had no contact with Feige or the studio at any point, stating "No. Not in any way," when asked about a possible collaboration.

This is surprising, especially as the Sony movie has swapped the regular Marvel logo for one that reads "In Association With Marvel." That led to the belief the two studios may have worked together in some way but it's clearly not the case and it seems Feige had zero interest in weighing in on Venom. Then again, he probably wasn't asked to seeing as Avi Arad can't be happy about losing Spidey to him.

Fleischer, however, remains optimistic that could change somewhere down the line. "I hope that at some point they will be able to crossover," he says. "But for us the entire process was self-contained." Venom features no references to the MCU and Spider-Man is nowhere to be found and the chances of a crossover seem pretty slim...unless Sony takes Spider-Man backs and releases one!

@Imfunnyhow - I can’t believe this movie is getting ripped. I just watched it my whole family and even my WIFE liked it. Both daughters, everyone. My oldest daughter is still talking about it. And everyone in my theater stayed behind for after credits scene. Sometimes I think reviewers just get butt hurt because they aren’t getting paid or something. This movie was not Catwoman. Was way more fun than The First Avenger many of the first Marvel movies. Certainly more fun that AS and AS2, I’m going to write something later. People need to watch this movie before commennng.

@MitchConner - I think the best thing this movie could have done was make it PG13? My girls have literally spent the last hour taking about writing their own Venom story. This movie was great, I’m going to buy Blu Ray. At least with kids not such judgmental fart sniffers this thing might get legs by word of mouth. Seriously both my girls are in the back “my Venom would be Venoms sister, and she’d look like the one when he was controlling the girl”, my other daughter “that Venom song was lit, I just found it online” (although it just sounded like an Eminem song to me).

I’ll go back to my original comment on another post, but with a small edit:

I said: people will stop taking chances (good actors) if stufios keep making crappy movies

Now: same thing, but we will also lose great actors and actresses to new products if reviewers take good unique niche movies away from us and fans get mob mentality.

When I got tonight my wife said “are we going to watch Venom” and I said no, I heard it sucked. Last minute, I went to watch it because I had a few drinks, glad I did.

Went in with low expectations, came out laUgh it and ready for sequel

PS: girls in garage still taking about it

@THEDARKKNIGHT1939 - Yes, but nearly every cbm has that kind of score on day one. Black Panther was the rare exception when it debuted below 70%.

I loved Venom going back for second viewing Sunday.

4 Stars out of 5 Stars but I could easily change it to 5 Stars.

Tom Hardy as Eddie Brock/Venom is a must see at the theater but I actually thought all the actors did great.

@StarlordsDad - FRIDAY AM UPDATE: Sony's Venom took in $10 million from Thursday night previews, which began at 5PM in 3,543 locations.

The performance is the largest October preview ever, topping Paranormal Activity 3's $8 million in previews before going on to open with $52.6 million back in 2011. The studio is currently anticipating a $55 million opening weekend, which would put it just shy of Gravity's record October opening of $55.7 million.

@DoubleD - yea dude, I liked it too. Sucks Tom Hardy has to take this crap, I thought he did great. And my wife is still taking about it. Was the most fun I had in a movie in a while. Wasn’t serious, wasn’t crazy horror. Cudos to the cast and director. The third act is the only issue, fight scene was brought on too quickly, but I think it deserves a sequel

@StarlordsDad - no way, I’m sorry, I’m the firs to call a spade a spade, but everyone in my theater enjoyed it, and that’s pretty rare, I live in a city where people have wise ass jokes about bank commercials during movies
