Despite the improved relationship between Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios (which has brought Spider-Man into the Marvel Cinematic Universe and given Kevin Feige creative control over him), Venom director Ruben Fleischer has confirmed in a new interview that he had no contact with Feige or the studio at any point, stating "No. Not in any way," when asked about a possible collaboration.
This is surprising, especially as the Sony movie has swapped the regular Marvel logo for one that reads "In Association With Marvel." That led to the belief the two studios may have worked together in some way but it's clearly not the case and it seems Feige had zero interest in weighing in on Venom. Then again, he probably wasn't asked to seeing as Avi Arad can't be happy about losing Spidey to him.
Fleischer, however, remains optimistic that could change somewhere down the line. "I hope that at some point they will be able to crossover," he says. "But for us the entire process was self-contained." Venom features no references to the MCU and Spider-Man is nowhere to be found and the chances of a crossover seem pretty slim...unless Sony takes Spider-Man backs and releases one!
