VENOM Will Have A PG-13 Rating As Sony Is Hoping For A Future SPIDER-MAN/MCU Crossover

While it did initially appear as if Venom would boast an R-Rating, it's now been revealed that it will actually be PG-13 because Sony is hoping that Eddie Brock and Spider-Man will meet down the line...

Despite reports to the contrary, it appears as if Venom won't be receiving that R-Rating after all. According to Variety, reshoots recently took place in Los Angeles and while trailers have emphasised the movie's horror elements, Sony's brain trust believes the film should only push the limits of PG-13 without ever crossing that. Why? It all boils down to what the future holds in store for Eddie Brock.

Apparently, the studio is looking to include Spider-Man in future instalments of the character's franchise and are even open to Venom appearing in a Marvel Cinematic Universe movie. Just how much interest Kevin Feige will have in that is another matter but Sony knows that an R-Rating closes the door on any possible crossovers as the wall-crawler isn't meant for a world with an adult rating.

It's also said that those reshoots have added more humour to proceedings so perhaps there's still hope for Venom! The character's messy origin aside (which obviously won't include Spidey), it will obviously be cool to see him and Spider-Man in the same movie but this all hinges on how successful Venom winds up being. What do you guys think? As always, share your thoughts in the comments section.

Honestly, it would be in both parties’ best interests for all of it to be MCU.

@sharkman03191 - No to both parties. Sony? Absolutely. It doesn't help the MCU. That would mean either Marvel Studios would have made a full blown film for Sony like they did Homecoming, something that they did not have the time or manpower to do while also making Captain Marvel, A4 and indeed Far from Home, OR Marvel Studios is not in charge creatively like Homecoming and risk whatever crap Avi Arad/Matt Tolmich put out sullying the MCU brand. There is no real middle ground of Sony makes it but Marvel tells them when their ideas are dumb; Marvel would either have total control over Venom (not enough time or manpower) or no control over an MCU entry (fat chance). It is in Marvel's best interest to pretend this doesn't exist and hope it goes away.

@sharkman03191 Indeed, but Sony is either too greedy or dense to get that.

@sharkman03191 - why would it be in the MCU’s best interest to get saddled with a bastardized version of one of Spidey’s biggest villains?

PG13? BOOOOOOO! This is VENOM!

Also good luck on that crossover. Fiege will boot Sony out with Spider-Man sooner than give them creative control over anything in the MCU.

@MrDandy - I think a movie like venom and even deadpool could work well with a pg-13 rating. Deadpool could be more implicit in its comedy and Venom with its violence. But, if this movie was shot with an r-rating in mind and they're cutting/reshooting parts to make it work as a pg-13 film then I can definitely see this turning into a mess.

@MrDandy - Yeah....this definitely needs to not happen.

Lol of course they're hoping for that. They need to dump the rest of the Spider-Man universe in Feiges lap and go away.

@Kevwebsz - Put it in his lap and say "You make the movies" we'll put in, and make the money." A win-win for both studios. Marvel can use all of the Spider-Man characters. Sony can finance them and make a profit on their sales.

@SisterSunday52 - Kevin Feige and Marvel have neither the time nor manpower (nor I suspect the interest) to do Morbius, Black Cat, Silver Sable, Kraven, etc. when they have Captain Marvel, A4, Far from Home, whatever the [frick] is happening with GotG, and now the X-Men and Fantastic Four to worry about. Marvel is not biting at the heels of Sony to get a Jackpot film made. THEIR best case scenario is all this shit stop and let the Holland films be the only non-animated Spidey property right now. The next best is just letting Sony destroy themselves and distance Marvel from these as much as possible. These are turds going straight down the toilet and Feige would be INSANE to stop work on other properties they complete own so they can make Silk for Sony.

Nothing about the trailer screamed Rated R so I’m not surprised. This also makes me wonder exactly if Tom Holland is going to get a more extended stay in the MCU
