Andy Serkis' latest movie is SAS: Red Notice, an action-packed thriller which is set to be released in the U.S. on March 16th, and in the UK from today where it will premiere on Sky Cinema.
Of course, the actor and filmmaker has a lot of other exciting projects in the pipeline, including a starring role in The Batman as Alfred Pennyworth, Bruce Wayne's loyal butler and right-hand man.
We don't know much about what to expect from this iteration of the iconic DC Comics character, but attempted to get some intel from Andy during our recent interview with the iconic actor.
Some of our American readers may only be familiar with the SAS from knowing that Alfred Pennyworth has a history with them; is there any common ground between your take on that character in The Batman and George Clements in SAS: Red Notice?
I mean, if I get into any sort of discussion about that, I’ll get taken out by someone, I’m sure. Yes, I think there probably might be some little bit of crossover, yeah, for sure. I can’t tell you any more [Laughs].
We're not exactly going to take that as confirmation this Alfred has an SAS background, but Clements is no stranger to that world and private security, so a tougher Batman: Earth One take on the butler does seem likely.
The Batman isn't the only big comic book movie project Serkis is working on, of course, as he's stepped behind the camera to direct Venom: Let There Be Carnage.
The filmmaker wasn't willing to give too much away, but did share his excitement for the sequel.
I’m so excited for Venom: Let There Be Carnage, but what has it been like for you, as a filmmaker, to pit those two characters against each other, and have you been able to bring some of you mocap expertise to that?
I’m super excited about it. Again, it’s not something I can particularly talk about right now because we’re saving it for when everybody can go and enjoy it in the cinema. I don’t want to blow it or talk about it too much before then, but I’ve had a ball working on that film. It’s been great. [It’s] another bunch of brilliant actors, and it’s headed up by another keen SAS man, Tom Hardy [Laughs]. I hope you won’t feel disappointed. It was a real pleasure working on it.
I can imagine, and after you had that taste of the Marvel Universe with Avengers: Age of Ultron and Black Panther, it must have been very cool to step behind the camera to take charge of that world.
Exactly. I’m so excited about that coming out.
Awesome. I hope we get a trailer soon, but everything is so crazy with COVID....
I know! I think that’s the question I get asked more than anything else: ‘When is the Venom trailer coming out?’ [Laughs]
We wish we had a little more to share, but massively appreciate Andy going off topic to answer some questions...he couldn't really answer! However, there's lots of fascinating insights into his SAS: Red Notice role we'll have to share with you next week as we take a deep dive into that project.
For now, here's the action-packed trailer:
