I like games with monthly fees. They actually save me money from purchasing crap games.

I play City of Heroes and Champions still. Both have come a long way since launch.

DCUO was looking like another Warhammer Online. Tons of vlogs but hardly any gameplay videos. It was all hype...glad they delayed it.

However I think it will still be hurt by the delay. With each passing month Paragon Studios is make HUGE updates to City of Heroes.

Up next for Paragon is re-texturing the world, adding custom animation for powers, updating the character models and art for every costume piece.

CoX just hit the mark any MMO copy wants. Balance and fixing is done, enough new features have been added, so now they can focus on adding to what they already have. City of Heroes is basically going "Hardies/Dominos" on the MMO market. "Being the last MMO you played is now the first".

City of Heroes only has one fault and that is the slow combat, but when you have a group of 5 heroes against 20 enemies it is easier to strategize when the combat is slower IMO.

Honestly going for the MMO space is not the smartest thing anymore. Blizzard has Cata and realizes WoW is about to be replaced by Guild Wars 2. Champions is dying because CoX had the upper hand, Allods, DnDO, and Lotrs Online have cornered the f2p market.

DC and Marvel hesitated to allow their franchises to compete int he MMO world a little to late. I wonder if these devs of upcoming MMOs have looked at what is coming... Sword and Soul, Tera, Guild Wars 2...a freaking Star Wars MMO...what were they thinking if they have?

@ DeadPool @ nuck82

You pay monthly anyways, not for updates. Like any MMO.

I've been playing City of Heroes for close to 4 years now. DCUO looks pretty but all the city scenes that I'm seeing (haven't gotten a Beta invite yet) remind me of everything that people complained about in the look of CoH for the longest time. It looks like a step between the lifeless and sterile appearance of zones like Steel Canyon and the new, vibrant cityscapes of areas like Imperial City in Praetoria. In other words, they've still fallen a bit short of the bar on this one.

Paragon Studios is upping the ante with zone revamps every few issues and additional new content every couple months in those issues. I'd like to see DCUO be a viable alternative, as competition is always good for the customers, but for now the only draw would be to take my characters and have them meet up with the DC heroes I grew up reading. There are still some things that this one will apparently offer that CoH doesn't, but to be honest, they're a little late to the game and need to show more than just some flashy fly-by videos and cut scenes to impress me enough to switch.
