In the last update from Monolith with regards to its upcoming Wonder Woman game, the studio was refuting claims that the title would be a liver service or Games As A Service business model.
In the process of refuting the rumor, Monolith previously told IGN, "Wonder Woman is a single-player action-adventure game set in a dynamic open world. This third-person experience will allow players to become Diana of Themyscira and introduce an original story set in the DC Universe while also featuring the Nemesis System. Wonder Woman is not being designed as a live service game."
That update came a few months after reported concept art leaked, depicting some potential companions for Diana of Themyscira.
Now, Shpeshal Nick of the XBox Era Podcast has revealed that he has gotten some insider information about the game.
According to Nick, the game is now running at 30 frames per second, but the development team intends to improve the speed to 60 frames per second before the game is launched.
He also reports that the game's visual style is comparable to Gotham Knights. While somewhat disappointing, this isn't a deal breaker because Monolith's prior titles, the Lord of the Rings-inspired Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor and Shadow of War, were not visually groundbreaking, with the games' appeal coming to the novel Nemesis system.
Fundamentally, the Nemesis System is a means of producing procedurally created adversaries that go beyond simple, faceless red and yellow bar enemies. Every enemy in the system has a distinct personality, set of advantages and disadvantages, and goals. Additionally, they will remember previous exchanges with the gamer and modify their conduct accordingly.
Players can also control the enemy hierarchy via the Nemesis System. They have the ability to elevate their adversaries to positions of authority, betray them, and even kill them. This could significantly affect the gameplay by affecting how easy or difficult it is for the player to advance.
In short, if Monolith is behind the game, the Nemesis System, not the graphics, will be the focus. Although Nick did mention that the devs aim to offer a performance mode in addition to the 60 FPS increase.
The podcast host also stated, "Jumping, leaping, and fast dashing feels really cool like a good version of Crackdown" and that, "The Lariat feels good to use; works sort of like Spider-Man’s webs [and then] you can wrap it around people, slam them."
Nick also goes on to add that the game's loot system is very similar to God of War: Ragnarök.
Currently, Wonder Woman is without an official release date but it's heavily speculated to be releasing in mid to late 2024.
