My Ideal CBM Game

My Ideal CBM Game

Comics and video games have gone together since the home entertainment technology existed. This is the game I would love to play one day.

Growing up I was fortunate enough to have parents that bought me my first few gaming consoles before I was old enough to buy them for myself. I spent hours upon hours playing games ranging from Burger Time on my first intellivison, Donkey Kong Country on SNES, among countless others. But as long as i can remember, video games featuring comic book characters were always my favorite.

I still have most of my old games and looking at the dusty cartridges I fondly remember playing Spiderman/Xmen: Arcade's Revenge, TMNT: Turtles in Time, I even have the Tim Burton Batman movie games. But with the advancement of technology, the recent explosion of comic book media in the mainstream I can't help but look forward to the possibility of what these companies will bring next.

There are many upcoming games that look great, recent games that were a lot of fun, and some I have probably missed or never heard of.

Marvel Universe: The Game
Granted, there are smarter and more clever people out there who can give these better names than I can. This game would be a free roaming game inside of huge maps similar to the GTA series or the very fun Arkham games. In this game you can travel around the world to different cities and find all of your favorite Marvel characters and play as each of them in their own campaign.

Wolverine might be in Canada or Japan, Black Panther in Africa, Union Jack in the UK...you get it. With portals and ships the player can travel to other dimensions (Dr Strange, Ghost Rider, etc) other planets (Thor, GotG).

The possibilities are virtually limitless! Each character would have its own set of abilities, strengths, custom vehicles and weapons. The player would be able to build up each character's attributes and skills like strength, driving, intelligence, etc.

Visit underwater worlds, space travel, even a gladiator style arena to challenge other characters to battle. Hulk vs Goliath, Deadpool vs Cable, Black Widow taking on Elektra....

Playing an action game with Spiderman, F4, Blade, Xmen....my brain could barely handle it. And imagine the online community it could have. The quality and massiveness of the game I'm picturing in my head would probably be one of the most expensive games ever made.

Thoughts, ideas? Or any good games that you recommend I play?
Please leave feedback or share your thoughts.

They need to make a franchise known as the MArvel Universe games. With individual games released.

Marvel Magic
Marvel Fantastic Four
Marvel Avengers
Marvel Street Crime
Marvel Cosmic
Marvel WW2

So on so on. Where you get to play with solo characters, as well as the teams they are involved in. Then build them around each other, and have the Avengers games be the main focal points. We could see some amazing storylines, with tons and tons of characters.

Are you saying they should make a game world the size of the Earth?

@gamecreatorjj - haha obviously not. I'm thinking a few major cities around the world: Los Angeles, NY, Tokyo, London etc. There would have to be a quick travel option that teleports you or relocates the player, similar to when you switch between the main characters of Gta v

So lego marvels avengers/super heroes without the lego part, and then bigger?

@malsemarcel - Just what I was thinking. I don't understand how Lego is the one who put out the Marvel game with the biggest roster. Why doesn't Marvel trust it's characters as much as lego does?

I would like to see a server set up where you would never see the same hero twice if you were playing online. Like if you were Spiderman you would never see another spiderman online, just the other heroes. This way if you choose one member of a team you could go online and be that team for that server.

This is a wonderful idea. Marvel hasreally dropped theball n the gaming dept. Even Dc had the DC online gaming for awhile.

The problem is, it'd probably end up more quantity than quality. There'd just be too playable characters and areas, for there to be an actual story. It would probably just feel like GTA with Marvel characters.

Judging by your article, and the comments, it looks like none of you are aware of DC Universe Online. I know you wanted a Marvel game, but this is literally DCUO. I've been playing for 5 years, its still a great game with a huge community. A comic book MMO where you can be heroes or villains. You can go to Watchtower, Hall of Doom, Gotham, Metropolis, Central City, and those are just the main hang outs. There are tons and tons of instances featuring iconic heroes, villains, and stories that you go though. Duos, four man alerts, and 8 man raids.

The iconic characters like Superman, Batman, Lanterns, EVERYONE, are playable in Legends missions, but you play as your own character and level up with your power type. The story is Lex Luthor came back from the future he ruined and granted humans with super powers to stand a fighting chance about Brainianc. I love it.

@neihofft - I had seen that back when it was first coming out. Didn't really do any research before writing the article though. I'll have to check it out, though. Thanks!
