2015 Just Got Even More Crowded! Duncan Jones' WARCRAFT Gets A Release Date

In a year which will see the releases of Avengers: Age of Ultron, Batman/Superman and Star Wars Episode VII, Universal and Legendary Pictures have today revealed that Warcraft will join them.

Moon and Source Code director Duncan Jones' big screen adaptation of the hit video game series will be released on December 18th, 2015 it was announced today. It will be the first film that Universal will release for Legendary Pictures under their new distribution and co-financing partnership. However, this now puts the fate of Star Wars Episode VII in doubt. With the summer already extremely busy, many believed that the J.J. Abrams helmed sequel would instead be released in time for Christmas. However, with Warcraft nabbing such a big date in December, when exactly we will return to a Galaxy Far, Far Away in 2015 is even more up in the air at this point. The movie will still be released that year as far as we know, but it may be a challenge for Disney and Lucasfilm to find the perfect date at this point. What do you guys think?

The title Warcraft is pretty good. But The Avengers: Age of Ultron and Batman/Superman releasing in 2015 already makes the year a year to look forward to.

@marvel72, that's already a list that is worth spending your money on. Shit, I think I might get popcorn lungs in 2015.

Look at Box Office Mojo's schedule for 2015.It has Avengers AOU coming out on the 1st and some animated flick coming out on the 29th.The whole month,including the traditional memorial day weekend release window ( May 23rd) is still wide open.

The next big film with a locked down release date in Jurassic World on June 12th.
If Star Wars comes out on May 23rd it would have 3 weekends without a major genre flick to compete against. Why is May so wide open? Because everybody still expects Disney to claim the memorial day weekend opening date.

@marvel72

You still have to give props to the final Hunger Games film which will come out in November and so far,The Fantastic Four is still slated for March.

I don't get it.. Why is people exited over a movie about an online game? Whatching people play that game for 2 hours sound very boring. Just creating a character takes about an hour.

Nah just kidd.. Hope it is more like the old games and not WOW.

it doesnt have to get pushed back, its in dec so essentially 2 years thats plenty of time to film a movie like this and complete all the effects to a high standard

@BlackJack10

Not if Ant man cameos in The Avengers 2 or appear in the post-credit scene.(Which I'm pretty sure Marvel is going to do just to hype up his own movie.)

Ant-Man will be as good as if not better than Batman/Superman, Avengers AOU, and Bond 24 purely as a film.

Really because the world's most iconic and well known superhero barely survived Monsters university, dropping down to 3rd place in its 2nd week-end. Go figure, if the reviews are poor, consider that film done.

I loved the Warcraft RTS games, but whatever interest in or sympathy for World of Warcraft I may ever have had is long gone, and it took most of what I liked about the setting with it.

I'd probably watch this movie if it looks reaaaaally good, but all in all I'd have wished for Duncan Jones to do something else instead...

Not as exciting as the others, but still pretty cool. Good idea to release it in the winter, because it would get completely overshadowed in the summer. Star Wars VII, Age of Ultron, and Batman/Superman will be the big three.

Move Star Wars back to 2016. It deserves to have a summer mainly to itself (and no, neither an Avatar sequel nor a Star Trek sequel would give it much competition, especially compared to Avengers & Superman/Batman.)

And I'm sorry, but anyone who thinks Ant-Man is going to be even in the top 10 films in 2015 is seriously delusional. The more I think about it, the more I think it bombs, big time. It may redefine the term "box office bomb."
HugoStrange87
HugoStrange87 - 10/1/2013, 7:56 PM
It just makes nonsense for them to move a movie like Antman so close to WF. But on the flip side if I was WB I wouldn't release WF close to the Minions movie either. I'd push WF back a week.
