David Wenham Rumored to Play Arthas in Warcraft Movie

"Supposedly" Blizzard has hinted that David Wenham (LOTR, 300) will be playing Prince Arthas in the Warcraft movie. I am not 100% sure, but it's on several news websites, and IMDB.

I personally remember Blizzard saying Arthas wouldn't be in the first movie, but who knows, that was a long long time ago.
I could definitely see this working though. He plays a good character, and the character he played in Lord of the Rings resembles Arthas.
What do you guys think ?

Well, if they stick to the storyline from the farcraft strategy games it'll be a nice movie. But if they come up with some storyline involving the same old arthas..then they're simply after the money (surprise surprise?)

However, once Rami's directing it, it might be worth the watch :)

WoW has so much lore in it that they could make a series of movies and still have no covered it all

it is quite epic, but yes there are those who go overboard and lose themselves in it, but for those of us who casually play the game and us get a bad rep sadly

the game is truly epic and a movie will hopefully be the same

plus teabag, combine alcohol and the game and youve got a good time. or weed... mostly weed :)

The movie will follow closely to the game. The protagonist will have to retrieve a book - or something else just as insignificant - for a old mage from his old buddy who lives two houses down. Then the other 120 minutes will be spent watching our hero grind Murlocs for scales.

Blizzard has actually had some pretty good storylines and there have been tons of novels based on the whole warcraft thing.
Anywho I can see this guy as an arrogant jerk like arthas. Now whos playing Jaina? And why use arthas first instead of opening the gate to see orcs for the first time?

David Wenham as Arthas would be pretty sweet, I just hope this movie doesn't focus on the human faction too much, fantasy movies always seem to put Elves and Dwarfs as the party members and give less back story on them. the only exception was LOTR and that was because the stories focused on Hobbits but Legolas was lacking in the back story department as was Gimli.

a good story i think would be Ilidan's quest or Thrall's

Man I think they should do a thrall story from the 3rd game that was my favorite one and I wanna see more from the orcs point of view

The Lich King?? Really there gonna do that storyline first? Wasn't that like the third storyline Blizzard came out with? Also I agree Ilidan's or Thrall's story or a background story on the War itself.

Dye his hair dirty blonde and I think you got a good choice of actor.

But seriously, Arthas? Man... his story's been done to death. Why not the War of the Ancients or somethin we HAVEN'T seen, or have only read in books? The Battle of Grim Batol? Oy...

Maybe not theLich King himself, IG, but at least set the tone for the character. Introducing Arthas is a smart move.

Now I played WoW for a while (maybe a 4 month period), and liked it, but quit because I didn't have them time to play it, and wouldn't pay for something I don't play. So I'll be the first to say it. All of you (wyatt1234, teabag, inspace, superdog) who think it's stupid, only the people who play this 25 hours a day (yes, they invent an extra hour. Special WoW time rules...) are stupid. It's actually a decent game. But then again, I'd expect you guys to have leniency for those who do the same when both Champions Online and DC Universe Online are released...

As for the casting, I like it. To be honest, don't be surprised if they pillage ALOT of actors from medieval/fantasy movies/franchises.

If its just an intro then cool but do the back story of the war and the kings, Ilidan and Thrall. I play WoW Bubba and I like it. It's fun for because u can interact w/ other players.

People find Warcraft stupid due to the people playing it make it look stupid because they are so obsessed. Yes, I play it but like only every once in a while. The storyline for Warcraft is well thought out and I doubt that Blizzard will want anyone rushing into this movie. I have a strong feeling that it actually be a pretty good movie with a great storyline no matter what it will be about.
Spoon366
Spoon366 - 8/6/2009, 3:46 PM
@ InstigatorGIRL, well actually, arthas has been a character LONG before The Lich King part of him was ever revealed. So I don't think this movie will have anything to do with "The Lich King". It might have something about Arthas being a paladin, and trying to save his people from the disease that turns them all into Undead.

And for the people who are saying "Does wow have a story?"
It actually has so much story that they could make 5 movies, and not have 1/2 of it covered.

Grizzly Hills here.
5 movies wouldn't cover half, nowhere close.
In chronological order (just for a little taste)
-Titans- Undeveloped story
War with the old gods
Sargeras' betrayal
Corruption of Argus
other story in this time with unrelated characters

-War of the Ancients- Developed story
3 stories written, could be 3 or more movies
time directly before or after provides possible story setting
high elves' banishment and arrival in the eastern kingdoms

-7000 years later (time of Arathor)- Undeveloped
Arathor, human tribes, high elves and the war against the trolls. Could provide many movie class stories

-War of the Three Hammers- Undeveloped Story
The war between the three dwarven kingdoms, 1-3 stories

-The Last Guardian- Developed Story
Medivh, Khadgar, Garona. could be 1-2 stories

We now reach the point of the very first warcraft game, when the lore stops being so ambiguous and many well known stories begin.
That is a minimum of 8 Movies covered so far and we havent even started the main known history.
