Variety reports:
After a lengthy search, Legendary Entertainment has found its leading man for the upcoming adaptation of “Warcraft,” tapping Travis Fimmel to star. No formal offer has been presented yet but sources say he is their guy for one of the four leads in the film. Fimmel is the star of History Channel’s “Vikings,” which is currently in production on season two.
For a longtime there have been plans to adapt the popular
Warcraft video game franchise into a live-action film, but even the great, Sam Raimi ("Spider-Man"), could quite figure it out. The project is finally moving in a positive direction, as we have our first official cast member. I myself, am not familiar with Fimmel. I wish him good luck.
Luckily, Fimmel will be working with ultra-talented director, Duncan Jones (“Source Code”). He is directing Legendary's big-budget gamble, based on a script by Charles Leavitt.
Variety also included in their scoop news that Paula Patton ("Law & Order: SVU") is still negotiating for a co-starring role in the film, and that an offer was made to Colin Farell (S.W.A.T.), but doesn't look as sealed up as Fimmel's and Patton's does.
