The article that is discussed at www.cnn.com gives you a better insight of the issue behind Xbox one, and the issue about games being sold/used/traded in etc.
Microsoft tries to clear up the issues with brief comments, but based on their answers they've pretty much made it almost clear of what they are trying to do, which I'm going to help clear up for those that are sitting on the fence or have decided that Microsoft is evil.
I too think Microsoft is taking a little too far with this decision but after reading several articles and the one posted on CNN I've come to the conclusion that it isn't all that bad. (but still relatively not that great either)
They pretty much equate the purchasing of games through Xbox live, versus a physical store, like Apple's App Store. Everyone that owns an Apple device knows that there is no argument that once you buy a game on the app store, it's yours for life and there is no "lending" of the game to a fellow friend that happens to own an iPhone - that friend will have to buy the app themselves, there is no way around this. This is essentially what Microsoft is aiming to do, provide the consumer the product (Xbox console) and give the developers (like those on the App Store) the ability to determine whether they will charge you $60.00 or less or even free. Yes, you read this correctly, some developers are going to be nice enough to give you games for free, again much like what Apple game developers are doing as we speak.
Now onto the issue of trading in games, borrowing etc.
What Microsoft is trying to propose is that when you purchase a digital copy of the game, it's yours for life, it follows you everywhere, so if your current Xbox catches on fire or is stolen, you may buy a new Xbox, upload your profile, and you have your games waiting for you to play with. Also, (it's not mentioned but you can get the sense of it) they will likely save your game progress or at least give you the option to do so on an "iCloud" type air hard drive that will help you with retrieving lost data if your Xbox is destroyed or replaced.
With this type of proposal, the idea comes to my mind the following and that is likely Gamestop will continue to be a physical store, still there to supply you with the hardware, but Gamestop will likely be a "Netflix" type application. With them being a digital store, that will be available for download on the Xbox live most likely, you will probably be able to purchase your games/add-ons/ but also very plausible allow you to sell your title (trading) of your game back for a discounted price towards a different game that you would like to play. The downside??? You'll lose the game title until you buy it again at full price.
Hope that clears up the trading dilemma
Now about borrowing:
I've mentioned earlier that Microsoft wants to basically copy Apple's way of selling games on the App store, so borrowing will soon be a distant memory for all of us gamers that started with our first love, Nintendo. Just like now (Android/iPhone) you purchase let's say Words with Friends (non-free version), you can't let your friend who also uses a smartphone to "borrow" your game they will have to download the content themselves or buy it, if it requires a fee.
Borrowing games is soon going to be non-existent, and those cheering on PS4 for following that path, be careful to not follow closely behind PS4 for soon they too will change, and you'll be faced with the same dilemma.
This is the "gist" of what I got out of all of the information I collected, read, and deciphered.
What is your take, why you are or not going to get an Xbox One console? And what would change your mind?
Sound Off!!!!
