Due to the fact that this is an origin story, Romano had a very distinct concept in mind for who should supply the character's voice.
"There needed to be youth to her voice and an innocence to it," she says. "Oftentimes when we meet Wonder Woman in the Justice League series, she's already Wonder Woman and involved in the world. This one needed to have an innocence and naivete to it. We always try and make the flavor a little bit different, because I don't need to keep doing the same thing over and over again. We try to find some sort of different energy and feeling."
For Romano, the casting of both Wonder Woman and Steve Trevor became something of a no-brainer when she caught the film Waitress, which stars Keri Russell and Nathan Fillion.
"I remember thinking, 'That's some nice chemistry they've got there," she laughs. "My next thought was, 'Hey, I need a Wonder Woman and Steve Trevor.' Typical for these projects with a lot of celebrities, you don't record them in the same room at the same time. They weren't even in the same city in the same month, but it's my job to make sure that they sound like it's someone acting and reacting as though the actual actor was in the room with them. But they're terrific, sweet, nice people, who did a really nice job. We'll see how it all cuts together."
We will indeed — in March 2009.
